1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
The information technology we use includes: email, telephone, MSN, recording pen, digital camera, DV recorder, scanner, computer software, related books, computer classrooms, media conference rooms, tours and the interviews. We distinguish them as the below:
Tools and technology used for Email, Telephone, MSN Communication at home to discuss, set up meetings, arrange activities and contact the interviewees. Computer classrooms, media conference Meetings and making homepage. DV recorder?recording pen and digital camera Getting and recording image, sound, photos. Scanner Saving the information and pictures.
Software and programs (FlashMX?Namo5.5?FrontPage2002?PhotoImpact8?CSS?HTML?JAVA etc.) Editing text and image and making the homepage.
Books and internet browser (IE6.0) Gathering information about ceramic art, reports on Mr. Wong, and how to create the homepage and Flash. Tours and interview Go to Yingge to interview Mr. Wong, and have Mr. Wong demonstrate how to make pottery and tour his facility.
When conducting the interview, we learned manners and ways to communicate. We also came up with questions to interact with the interviewee. We had to repeatedly locate coordination and change color arrangement when using Photoimpact 8 to design our homepage. It might sound easy but it requires plenty of practice, amendments, and hard work to accomplish. Using CSS was a challenge too. All these difficulties had puzzled us, but, thankful for the CyberFair, we eventually became very skillful of using the techniques. We leaned innovating tools and ways of creating homepage!
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
We interviewed few people, asked for questions about Gene, and also hoped that they could offer us any more information or even pictures. Due to he has done this kind of interviewed before, therefore, when he got our invitation, he quickly contact us and helped us a lot. After so many times of interviews, we actually became friends! I think that’s so cool!
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
We had a survey of how much do high school student know about GMF, in our surprise, these high school students didn’t really know or hear about GMF, and they neither try to understand more. Therefore, we felt that’s our mission to let people know more, not only tell them what is it, also find out whether those “rumors” about GMF are true or not. And where can we buy or see those GMF. We hope students can put more attention on GMF by giving them question to think about.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
When we were collecting data, Our school library Director helped us a lot, he found many many useful information my looking at school data bank. In addition, our school nurse also have us advice and some professional medical suggestions about Gene. Wow, she definitely is more than just a school nurse!
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
In this research, we had the first glance to this amazing nature and the unbelievable modern technology which grow so fast that we might not realize. We certainly learned and understand about Gene Technology in advance. Stared to think about that whether Gene Tech would ever harm or even destroy our nature environment and creatures? So we know that we can’t only think about the positive side of Gene Modified Technology, we need to consider lot more things. And face all kinds of problem which Gene Tech caused. Is Gene Tech benefit or actually harming our environment? Scientist can’t sure either, but we, consumers need to face it, not keep silent.
At the same time, if there is any people being lazy, can make whole team work inefficiently, therefore, we planed every schedule carefully, and finished it step by step.
