2. Summary of Our Project

'Sin-chuan' 'chuan-cheng' meaning inheritance in Chinese both have a strong meaning of passing something onto the future. Therefore, our students are quite smart to combine the two into 'sing-chuan-cheng.' This new word 'sing-chung-cheng' not only holds the meaning of passing what we have on but also of having an expectation towards the future. Thus, the topic for this project is 'A new Inheritance – the world of Bei-guan at Lo-tung Fu-lang Club.' During out researches, we focused on the music and culture in Bei-guan Music, including the god they worship-'shi-chin wang-yei' (one of the gods of the traditional arts).

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The technical obstacles is about the instruments .

we want to show the music of Bei-guan instruments, but Bei-guan culture is diminishing,so there is few peopel playing these instruments. Luckly,we found Mr.Zhuang, because his great help, we can put the Bei-guan music on the web site to show everyone .

5. Our Project Sound Bite

'Sin-chuan' 'chuan-cheng' meaning inheritance in Chinese both have a strong meaning of passing something onto the future. Therefore, our students combine the two into 'sing-chuan-cheng.' This new word 'sing-chung-cheng' not only holds the meaning of passing what we have on but also of having an expectation towards the future.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In this project, we combined language, social studies, art, synthetic course and technology education. Language is an important tool to express thoughts and to communicate. During our research, we had to discuss all the time to exchange our ideas. Even when we were doing interviews with the teachers, we needed oral interaction. Therefore, language covers quite a big part of the whole research. In order to know the history of Bei-guan, we needed to experience the culture, people and the society at the time. Through all the experience and sharing, it compliments the spirits of the learning of the social studies. Moreover, bei-guan is a kind of arts. Through the project, students get to know the values of arts. And that conjunct with the goals of the art education.

In order to accomplish this project, the most important thing is to cooperate, to learn how to share with each other. Therefore, synthetic course also takes a part. To present this webpage, we have internet technology.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

(1). Digital camera – to take pictures of the interviews or the pictures for the webpages. (2). Recording pen – to record the interviews or the sounds of each different instruments. (3). Scanner – to scan the pictures or original documents. (4). Computer software – by using photo impact 8.0 or Namo 5.5 to process the pictures and to work on the webpage. (5). Internet and searching engines – to collect information and to upload pictures or files to the webpage or to know about the news from the commity.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the very beginning, we search on line for the location of the club. However, no matter how we look for it, we couldn't. later, we visited the township government. They suggested us to go to the library where there are more information. As soon as we got to the library, people there gave us a great help on finding the information about the Bei-guan music and Fu-lang club. Some days later, we found where the club is. But it was all empty. Thanks to the local residents, they told us to visit the vice president –Mr. jin-cai zhuang. Now we had hope to continue our project. When we first met Mr. Zhuang, he was very happy and welcomed us warmly. He patiently introduce the instruments and a lot of related information. He also told us that there would be people going to the club and do the cleaning. Following this information, we met the president of the club Mr. yu-yi chen. Along the way, we had surprises out of all the difficulties. We met lots of people who helped us and that had gave us a whole new aspect of Lo-tung township.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During this project, you can simply see students all became the little missionaries to spread Bei-guan music and drama out to everyone. And our school also contacted with the Lo-tung Fu-lang Club,Invited them to show the traditional art to students.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

(1) historical information - Mr.jin-cai zhuang Most of the members of the Lo-tung Fu-lang Club passed away. That made information collecting harder. Luckily, we got in touch with the vice president of the club, Mr. jin-cai zhuang. He offered us all the historical information about the club and is so willing to introduce and also play the Bei-guan style music to us. We truly appreciate the great help from Mr. Zhuang.

(2) Computer problem - home-room teacher Chen In the process of collecting or organizing the information, computers and internet access are quite needy. However, not all of the project members have computers or even internet access at home. We can only asked the students to use disks to exchange all the information they have. During the discussions among the project members, we sometimes would need computers to help explain the information. The home-room teacher of the students offered the computer in their classroom to let our discussion easier and smoothier.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We learned a lot about the Bei-guan culture through the Cyberfair. We also learned about team work. Along with all the work, we learn how to cooperate, to share and also to listen to each other. It is with all the giving and helping to each other, we have this wonderful website. Moreover, we learned how to use the digital tools, such as the recording pen, digital camera, the computer software-photoimpact. The most important thing is that students all became the little missionaries to pass Bei-guan music on to our next generation, to spread the traditional art out to everyone.
