Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Namangan region is situated in the northeastern part of the Ferghana Valley, on the right bank of the Syrdarya River covering an area of 7 900 square kilometers. The climate is typically continental, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The population of the province is 1 862 000, with 62,3% living in rural areas and 37,7% in towns. The region is divided into 11 administrative districts with Namangan City as the administrative center. The city has a population of 341 000. Namangan region is rich in crude oil, gold, lead, copper, mountain quartz and antimony deposits. Important towns are Kasansay, Pap, Uchkurgan, Turakurgan, Chartack, Khakolabad and Chust. Some joint ventures formed with foreign investments included cotton yarn manufacturing, rubber shoe manufacturing, soft drink factories, hide processing and the production of leather goods. Industry is generally light, comprising two large silk production complexes, footwear manufacturing factories, cotton processing and textile factories and a non-woven fabric manufacturing plant. In addition there is a mechanical engineering enterprise, car repair workshop, chemical plants and electromechanical enterprises in the Namangan Province. Uzbek handcrafts prevailing this area - a factory for the manufacture of Uzbek national knives is located in the town of Chust.

2. Summary of Our Project

As a result of participation in project and realizations of researches was collected a material about poets and writers of Uzbekistan of XX century. On the collected material was created web-site in which information on such poets and writers as Zulfiya, Utkir Hashimov, Abdulla Oripov etc. Creating a site we wanted to tell all about activity and a creative way of these poets and writers.

Our lyceum computer class has 10 computers with OS Windows XP and Macromedia and Adobe products. Teachers and students take their classes to the computer class to do issues, researches and use computer programs.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Problems were in translation of the information into English language. But and it we were helped by teachers of English language.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Participation in project gave students :!) Experience of participate in the international projects; 2) new knowledge of poets and writers of Uzbekistan; 3) strengthened their skills in a web-design and creation sites.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our theme of project corresponded to educational standard of Uzbekistan of Uzbek literature. The project has aimed at research of activity and creative way of poets and writers of Uzbekistan of XX century.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

These tools and technologies were essential for the creation of our site. We were fortunate to have most of the technological tools in our Educational Internet Center. We used Macromedia Dreamweaver 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop CSto create the site..

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The participants of project informed many of their friends within their own and in neighboring schools about their project and the CyberFair competition. The participants during their research caused a wave of activity in their school and community. A lot of other teachers and school administrators were also informed about the competition. To collect the information under the project participants interviewed and photographed, visired libraries

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through our site people of our community have received the additional information on poets and writers of Uzbekistan of XX century. Students of faculty of the Uzbek language and the literature of Namangan State Univercity use our site as an additional source at a spelling of of lectures. To people of all world our site tell about our culture through the biography and a career of poets and writers of Uzbekistan. At present our site have visited not so many people because works on creation of a site finished recently, but we hope that our site will be visited with many people and will find the information useful to.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In the project we was helped by all teachers of our liceum. Teachers of Uzbek language and literature Usmanova Osiyo and Abdurakhmanov Abdullo, teachers of English language Abdullayeva Makhmuda and Abdullayeva Maluda have especially helped. Also to us helped Turgunov Mirabdulla - the poet , a member literary circle ' Sacred lyre '

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In realization of the project we have opened for ourselves a lot of new about Uzbek poets and writers. Also we have learned to create a web sites and to publish them in Iinternet. We have learned to carry out own research, to interview people. Our level of knowledge of English language has raised.
