1. Description of Our Community

Taipei 101' is the highest building in the world, attracting various tourists from all over the world to stay and visit. Besides, the peripheral business circles of Taipei 101 is located at the new city- Xinyi plan district.

Xinyi plan district is the city plan which the government set twenty-five years ago. The purpose was that letting the west cities develop into undeveloped east.

Many landmark buildings are located in this district, such as the Taipei Financial Center (Taipei 101), Taipei City Hall, Taipei City Council, World Trade Center, International Conference Center, International Commercial Building , Grand Hyatt Taipei, etc. With the greatest number of landmark buildings, Xinyi Dist. is considered the political, economic, and cultural center of Taipei City.

2. Summary of Our Project

This special topic probes into the transition of this district with the view of culture and history, understanding the new developing commercial circles extended out by 101 buildings by the view of the recreation trip rest, include the aspects , such as culture , music , recreation and beautiful scenery ,etc., can utilize diversified regional characteristics , develop different recreation ways.

We expect to introduce the beautiful place to the whole world and offer detailed tour guides about here.

At last of our project, students held a hiking-tour activity, introducing residents and classmates about this area on their own to be real tour guides.

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

(A)10Mbs fiber optic cable: Our school is the technology-focused school in Taipei; therefore, we have good software and hardware equipment. There are 40 computers in the computer classroom for little tour giudes training with laser printers shared. The network backbone is 10Mbs fiber optic cable. And there is an independent FTP space of the group, offering materials uploading and downloading.

(B)Multimedia classroom: There is a multimedia classroom for producing and editing films with a professional a flim studio. Besides, wireless network is available over the whole campus.

(C)Interactive server website Because of the huge amount of the data, teachers develop an interactive website to provide “diary” and “forum” functions. It is beneficial for little guides to type their feedback and collected data, then arranging all documents in order. Morover, we can discuss the meeting schedule and homework on the forum.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

(A)Define the project range: Because Xinyi pla district is huge, we take a long time to define our project. Until interviewing vice mayor of Taipei and the chief of Department of urban development , we finally decide to begin with urban development and history, then emphasizing sightseeing spots where children can take part in.

(B)Time limitation: Because the market around 101 is huge so there are a lot of spots to visit and also a lot of people to interview. It is a big challenge to arrange the schedule to interview and correct d ata.

The team members have to use every noon break and the time after school to join the activities to put these data in order. If doing the work more than 5:30 the teacher will send them to home.

(C)Collecting past pictures: Xinyi plan district was the armory to manufacture artillery and bullet of gum during Japanese colonial rule, so it is less picture left. We have looked for the pictures on museums or authorized website , though, it’s still hard to find.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Mr.Hu Shi (a famous chinese writer) said “ As you sow, so will you reap.” . The idiom tells us that if you want to get good, you have to work hard. We make a lot of efforts to make this website, which is our fruitful gain

This topic is hard and complicated so we have to stay almost every afternoon. Even though, we don’t think it is difficult because we really learn a lot. We have a fulfillment even more.As the saying goes: “ No pains, no gains”, if not cultivated, the harvest would not come!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We use the project based instruction, lead team members to interview and collect materials. Combining analyse skill, putting information in order, affection express, and including social field skills like understanding local affairs , visiting community's history ,etc., understand that the procedures of the urban design , experiencing designing the idea and course , develop the deep emotion to the community.

Moreover, students learn the technology skill to collect the information and put them in order, joining create activity to find out the beauty of the architecture. Further, students also learn the team unity that divide the work and help each other.

After this project, we know Xinyi District again and much more than before. We found there are many leisure areas for free. Many education, art and performance occasions are available for citizens to enjoy.

Speaking of Urban Development, we realized that it took time and enormous plans to develop a great city. For those no name hero and heroines, we were shocked and grateful. Simply enjoyed the fruit without thinking too much, we didn’t know those people who maintain this wonderful city. We were appreciated the information which gave by Department of Urban Development and Department of Culture Affairs.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

(A)Take part in local activities: Through local activities, we met vice mayor, Mr.Chin at “Stairs Marathon” competition in Taipei 101. Thanks to his kindness, we touched the gate in Taipei City Hall. Then, we interviewed the section chief and the Dean of Department of urban development. Mr Huang, at press office, also helped a lot.

(B)Connect to public welfare organizations: Welfare organizations in Xinyi district are all full of passion and helpful. For example, The CPC petroleum museum, Discovery center of Taipei and Novel Hall, once we connect to them and explain the situation, they will assist tour guide and provide the tricks for being a tour guide.

(C)Campus Resources: The principal is eager to provide the histories of Xinyi District. Mr Wang, our schol guard, provide other resources and created many lyrics and poems for our team.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During this period of time, it was a great time for us to learn. Without lunch break and went out for interview, even spent class time for typing,. We devoted ourselves on this project. Through these months, we all learnt a lot, especially generosity. We interviewed the vice mayor, Mr. Chin and officers in Department of Urban Development. Asked strangers to fill the questionnaires at the competition “Stairs Marathon” in Taipei 101. It needed huge courage. With instructors’ supports, we made it!

In holidays, we went to CPC petroleum museum and Discovery center of Taipei and Novel Hall for visiting. The stuff told us a lot and how to be a good tour guide in xinyi district. They are our model and example to follow. We are astonished that a tour guide has to notice many things in details.

In the beginning, as a tour guide, we failed many times. With parents and instructors’ encouragement, we were able to be a good tour guide.

For the cyberfair project, school held the “Xinyi District, I know better” activity. Our team was to lead everyone to Xinyi district. To introduce the history and features, through this process, we believed everyone would know Xinyi district much more!

Because of cyberfair project, we learnt a lot and understand more on this place---Xinyi District
