Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Hua-Lien is located at east coast of Taiwan, along to Wonderful Pacific Oceaon. It is full of Bountiful Natural Scenery, wonderful rivers and mountains, plus with special landform and geology, it became the best gorgeous scenery, was called Easter SWISS and Taiwan Carrar.

The Da-Xin Village of Hua-Lien county is one of the nine village of Guang-Fu township. You could find it from Tai number nine Road to south direction and turn right at the 255.5km Railway Tunnel Sign. Then it takes another 500 meters to reach our village.

It's hard to find related records according the Name 'Da-Xin'. The only one is from research of Professor Shou-Cheng Liao, researched at Hua-Lien Teacher College on 1985, on 'The formed and change of a-Mei tribe in Hua-Lien county' said, at the end of ninteen century, Tai-Ya tribe was inhabited Ma-Li-U, then moved to west side hill of Fu-Yuan to preventing from being bothered, the last family was called Okakay Afterwards the A-Mei tribe built community here, and called the community 'Okakay', it was translated as 'Gang-Jie' , finally changed to 'Da-Xin' after the restoration of Taiwan. Therefore the Name of ' The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan' in Da-Xin Village is called 'Gang-Jie Church'.

The Meaning of 'Okakay' in aborinige has too many explanation and sayings, thes makes the history of Da-Xin being covered with a acient mystery mask.

The Da-Xin Village was famous for its Da-Xin waterfall, but the floud at 2001, destoryed this tourist attraction and crumple this community. By the faith of the communty inhabitants, they make the dry and brown land has sprouting again.

2. Summary of Our Project

1.What did the Da-Xin Community of Hua-Lien County do on the rebuilding work after the Typhoon Tao-Zhi?

3.In order to look after both Leisure Traveling and Environment Conservation, what else can we do to accelerate the work of eco-conservation?

The Typhoon Tao-Zhi came to visit Taiwan in the morning of Jul. 30th, 2001. The people in Da-Xin Village,Guang-Fu Town Hua-Lien County, expericened most terrible night of the last several decades. Hillside of the village was full of floud and the dike of Nan-Qing-Shui Stream broken. Suddenly Stream and floud are all over in village during the night without water and electricity. The road ,fields and houses became floud roads. Many people died. Time Passed, those alive people, suffering Sorrow, steadfastly rebuild their home. The above questions are our research direction and website content. We lead the students to find out the influence of the Typhoon in 2001 and visited some related people of the community and administration units. The students doing interviews, planning on the observe activity, Visting and write down reports. At the same time, they also gather data in paper and from Network. Aftering Gathering all kinds of data, they start to arragne and plan , then finalizing the website design. We hope waht we did could help other students and others have more understanding and expecting to the Government policy on renovating rivers.

We hope this project could help people understand how the community people can overcome from this disaster? And how do we make balance between nature and community. Also expecting our government could make further research on renovating rivers and seeking better benefit to people.
