Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

As the second biggest metropolitan, Kaohsiung is entitled “the industry center” and “capital of marine.” Kaohsiung has wide variety of senses like sea, harbor, and river. The Urban Spotlight, Love River and the like are receiving highly compliment. In addition, Kaohsiung will hold the World Game in 2009 by which the city has been improving more than before. As Kaohsiung is ready to change itself, several ongoing constructions are raised to adorn this city. Besides, Kaohsiung City Government has devoted to the communication welfare during these years. For instance, the Seehaner Bake House hidden in the city jungle was often ignored by passengers. Now with the aid by Kaohsiung City Workshop, the harmonious Seehaner Smile Coffee will be known by everyone.

2. Summary of Our Project

The word “Haner” stands for a seldom being noticed group of angels. Although they do not have charming appearances, their inner beauty is more outstanding than the outer appearance! Their behaviors cannot be as swift as ours, but they prove their ability by the delicious food. They smile all the time, which is as shining as sunflower, to warm everyone’s heart. The sponsor by corporation and people bring them the most important purpose-warm people’s heart by food! From nothing to delicious bread, dessert, and food, they break through all the difficulties till today. Although there are several crisis fallen on them, it turns out to be an opportunity for them. By the reports of newspaper and medium, it calls forth people’s love to diminish the crisis and create another business height. Seehaner, in people’s impression, are somewhat stupid, unintelligent, and different from common people. They hide themselves and rarely go out. Not only they never see the outside world, but also people refuse to approach to them. These situations deeply attack those mental disabilities people. But now it is different. Because of the Foundation of Seehaner Welfare, it opens a window for countless mental disabilities people to look for their own position. Several parents of the mental disabilities children do not hide in the corner, but go out with incomparable courage and love. They lead their own children and embrace other children in needed to create a colorful future. Due to these diligence and love, our team decide to choose Seehaner as the topic. There is a proverb, “no pain, no gain.” Seehaner grows up in a difficult circumstance. We hope that the never surrendered spirits of Seehaner will be the most sparkling flowers. By love and carefulness to tear down the obstacles and inspire Seehaner’s potential, Seehaner can have the dignity and happiness of life. If you want to get closer to them, you can visit our website. We hope that this can help everyone understand those smiling angels more.

Through visiting Angel Restaurant and with the assistance of its chief, as well as the explanations of the officials from the Society Bureau, we understand the growth processes of Haners, and experience with empathy the fact that life, which is priceless, could be saturated with hopes, and everything could be possible, if only you are brave enough to accept the realities and make difficulties through.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

From there, we discovered that there are lots of knowledge and wisdoms which we could not learn from books, for example, how to lead your life in the groups you belong and get together with each other peacefully, how to conceal yourself but need not act as an invisible, and how to express your ideas when there are so much different opinions, and how to make decisions through voting, and then, accept the results without defying unreasonably, even when your opinion had been refused.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The technology we used included: computers, telephones, video and digital still cameras, digitizers and scanners, tape recorders, books, newspapers, libraries, and most important, oral interviews. The most valuable tools should be oral interviews. Through the personal contact with the elderly who lives around the market, we saw a lot of things that an outsider will never know.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Each student has his (her) own duties to be performed for the project. They have to call or e-mail the people who will be interviewed, and then, prepare correlating questions and list their order. In the interview, every student must offer his (her ) question in turn, just like a kind of mini journal meeting, in which everybody learns something never heard in classroom.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

For the students who participate this project. They live in here since they werechild but they never know the Haner or understand their behaviors so well until they began this project. This is a big impact for them. When you understand them more, you will pay more.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

There are a lot of people needs to thank. The first of all is teacher Chang, she helped us to finish the hard things that we couldn't solve. Also we need to thank for the daughter of teacher Chang, her name is Ellen. She lives in the Australia, and she also helped us about the English problems. Finally the most important people we want to thank are the Haner.Without them we can't finish our project.
