Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

Monserrat (18 years), Paulina (18years)and Diego (17 years). There was once a group of three students of the TEC de Monterrey that were starting there their last semester of high school. During their first day of classes they were told about their integrated project: a web page for an international contest. They realized that they could do a very good work and leave something to other people around the world. So it was time to create all teams, according to their interests of course, and these three students started working together. First, they accessed to the web page of the contest on January 27th, and analyzed the main goals that their topic contained, which is the Economic, Business and Trade, and they were aware of the purposes and objectives of their project when they chose it. The purpose of “raising awareness about the importance of international affairs and diplomacy” influenced a lot when they chose their topic. They thought that it was very important to learn about the trade emphasized in international affaires and diplomacy. Four days later, their assessor was assigned. It was Zeidy Rosas, our teacher of Mexican social and economical structures. And with her help they began their investigation. This caused that our three students began to understand the economic situation in Mexico and of the world. But the need of more assessors was greater. They went with each of their coaches for help and helped a lot in the structure and information of the project. On February 10th, they delivered to their teachers the curriculums of their assessors and a week later, the signed letters, containing that the coaches compromise to help us. Each day that passed they knew that this project was not only causing impact on them but also to the people that were helping them and surrounded them. Right now, they are in the school’s library, working on the final details of the page, but the story doesn’t end here. It will continue for a long, long time.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our main objective, as mentioned in the page structure, is the following: explain briefly how multi-national investors, and commerce promotes better relations and work to improve, in general, the welfare of the global population. Because economy is so important in international relations, we shall reach to a conclusion in which we will describe the international relations as a very important factor in the world’s economy. If the economy between countries is profitable and in a good situation, then the relations will be in the same situation.

We shall deal with definitions, explanations, institutions purposes, objectives and elements of:

Trade.

International banks.

Diplomacy.

Creativity.

Intellectual capital.

Imports and exports, between others.

The purpose of explaining all these points is to make people understand a little bit better the real problems, situations and relations we are nowadays facing. Many times we, as Mexicans, ignore, or just pay very little attention to all these problems. And, afterwards, we see people influenced more and more by propaganda and we don’t even try to investigate the real causes. As a consequence to this, people’s ignorance, sometimes, makes even more difficult to have healthy relations between States.

We shall also show the influence and the importance of the Internet in terms of economy, international relations, and, also, how it has been a very important tool in terms of globalization. Because as we’ve seen, during the last years, the Internet has become a very important tool in our daily lives, and this happens because every day we become more and more dependent on it, and if we use it appropriately, it can help us a lot with the international relations, trade, etc.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We had to evercome several problems but they were mainly produced because of a bad organization, or our bad mood some days. But, because we know each other very well, we knew exactly how to deal with it. Brainstorming and reaching common goals helped us solve some problems. We have the support of our coaches in case we had technical or problems in the information.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This project has meant to us, the students, an opportunity to acquire more knowledge about the international situation concerning our topic.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This project helped us to understand better our “International Affaires” class because in that class we see a lot of events that have happened in the world and that were caused by the inefficiency of international relations and diplomacy. On the other hand, it helped us to understand better what happens nowadays in our community and in the world, in general. Our standars where that we had to cover all the elements contained in the objective, and to explain them in a way our target audience, the students, would understand everything clearly.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used three computers mainly that includes one desktop and two laptops. With them we were able to upload our page and search for information. We used three telephones in order to communicate between us and with our coaches. We used a scanner in order to place photographs of a book in our page. About other software we used Microsoft Front page. We used the library of the ITESM CEM for information and images. At last we made oral interviews to persons with knowledge about this. The most valuable tool was the computers and the Internet as well as the information of the library.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We will try to promote our page in web pages of world order and diplomacy as well that in our community we will promote the importance of the diplomacy. We will tell our friends and relatives about our page and the importance of this topic. We have not make connection with potential visitors but we are planning to make this by sending emails requesting this to persons that work on TV and newspapers.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project make a difference by showing persons the importance of the economy in the diplomacy so persons can be aware of this when they see the world problems. At least our school has learned the importance of the economy. We hope that people around the world have learned new things about our topic and because it is in many languages it will make easier this task. All our teachers and friends as well as relatives and classmates have seen our web page and they liked it. We are sure that our site has helped them for understanding better this topic. Our family was really involved in this and they learned with us.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Many persons helped us. Our coaches and teachers helped us a lot but also some of our friends who taught us how to upload a web page or where to do so. Our French teacher Stephane M Demulder helped us a lot for translating as well as for given us information about the topic. Our Math teacher Víctor Garza Joa helped us in orientation about our project. Our families who gave us support in every moment.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We had acquired more information and we have learned more about the world’s situation, referring to the economical area. We have also learned a lot of how to work in a team, how to get everybody organized so we can all cooperate in a very tolerating and pacific environment. We learned how tools for a good communication really help while working on a team project. We have also learned how the Internet is a great tool for communicating with other countries, rather that just to get information. It is so important nowadays, that, well used, can lead international relations as well as economy to have a greater importance and inluece. Also, we have still a lot to learn from our coaches. They offer many things to us, but mainly they increased our culture and knowledge about the topic. In our opinion this project is going to help and teach us a lot, because, even though we do like the topic, we are also going to study something related to it. Our knowledge is going to be greater with this project as well as our understanding of it. We will be able to understand much better the world’s situation in a deeper way.
