1. Description of Our Community

Our school is No. 8 Middle School of Shizuishan. The leaders of our school are united, pragmatic and innovative. Our teachers are noble, knowledgeable and skillful. Focusing on the education of quality of students, our school is aimed at improving the scientific researches and students’ ability. We love our school and we are proud of our school.

2. Summary of Our Project

The greatest significance of our research is to improve the development of the management and teaching of our school and also stimulate the enthusiasm of teachers and students to web designing. All of the teachers and students are proud of our school. From the web, all the other people at home and abroad can see the western China is changing greatly and the schools there are also developing including our concept and our facilities. When our parents see the web designed by us, all of them are quite happy, moved and proud of us. When our headmaster sees it, he gives us a lot of praise.

The light fiber of our school is 10M. Through the effort, there are offices which can connect to Internet and computer aided instructing. The Internet is relatively good in our school and almost all the buildings in our school can connect to Internet. We can surf online to search important materials, which greatly improves the efficiency of management and teaching. What is regretful is that the computers in different grades are not enough.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

In time: We are the students in a very good high school, so we have a lot of activities of our own, so we do not have enough time for web designing. At school, we have to spend our breaks on the discussion our work and complete it at home after school. In this semester, our school holds several activities, so we really do not have enough time. In spite of all of this, we have tried our best to complete our task on time! We want to give our thanks to Town and Talent, Co., Ltd who has spared no efforts in helping the people in the west, in improving the living standards of the people in the west. We are just the people from the western part, so we have to try our best to complete our task. In technology: It is the first time for us to take part in this activity, so we lack relevant experiences, so our web still needs further improving.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have learned a lot from this activity. In the first place, in only one month in taking part in the activity, we have sensed the great love from Town and Talent Co., Ltd. As the students in western school, we have to try our best to complete our task. All of the people help us with the activity such as the teachers and colleagues. All of us want to make our own contributions to the hometown. In the second place, although our teachers are quite busy every day, all of us try our best to complete our task, from which we can see the great power of union. Our students also have learned a lot from the activity. Not only have they learned advanced technology, but they also have a better understanding of our school and love our school more than before.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

In the web designing competition, we have used several tools as follows: Telephone, digital video, digital camera, computer, Internet, software, e-mail, u disk, library, books and questionnaires. The telephone and e-mail are used to contact and exchange materials. The digital video and digital camera are used to collect data. The u disk is to store the materials. Some software is used in word processing, picture processing and web designing. All of the above tools are provided by our teachers and students. The teachers, leaders and our parents have given us a lot of help in the activity. What is the most valuable to us is the computer. It can help us store materials, communicate with each other and exchange materials between us. The software is also very important to us, which apply several kinds of technology such as word processing, picture processing and data collecting, as well as helping us to design the web of its own characteristics.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We love our hometown so much that sometimes we burst into tears. West, Ningxia and Shizuishan, all of which sometimes stand for poverty and backwardness. However, in our eyes, our hometown is so beautiful such as the red goji, white fir, tomb of the emperors of Xixia Dynasty, Lingwu Dinosaur Fossil, all of which make us proud of our hometown. We want to show the beautiful hometown to all of the other people. In the activity, we have had a lot of interviews such as personal interviews, or by telephone, by e-mail, most of which are by telephone and e-mail.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In only one month, the speed of our typing has greatly quickened and we have learned how to design web. Suddenly we realize a new world is opening the door for us, that is the world of Internet. What is more important is that we have learned how to allocate our time between web designing and our studies. We have never understood our school so deeply as we do now and we love our school much more than before. The characteristics, the management and the education have made us quite proud of our school.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In only one month, the speed of our typing has greatly quickened and we have learned how to design web. Suddenly we realize a new world is opening the door for us, that is the world of Internet. What is more important is that we have learned how to allocate our time between web designing and our studies.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
