Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Xiaying is located in Tainan City. In the middle part of Chia-Nan plain. You can go there by taking the exit to Moudou and Xinying, and going along Provincial highway No. 19-A. The eastern part is Liujia District and Guantian District. The southern end is Moudou District. The northern part is Xinying District, Yanshui District, and Liuying District. The whole area is about 33.5 square kilometers.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our topic is “The goose cultivate superior Xiaying District.” The local residents here are usually engaged in farm, animal husbandry, and fishery. The Geese, black soy beans, and silkworm raising are three important specialties. In this topic, we concentrate on goose. There are many gooseries around Xiaying. When passing throw Xiaying, we also can see many stores selling the goose porducts. It is really the most popular present for the natives. The Xiaying Farmer Association will hold an exhibition for promoting many kinds of goose products. The Chinese traditional drum club and the lion dancing club in our school are usually invited to perform. Therefore, the goose industry is the special feature in Xiaying. There are seven subjects in our topic: (1) Background : We will introduce the motivation, goals and the research methods. (2) Introduce the kinds of geese:We will introduce the cultivation and some associated products. (3) The goose in Xiaying: We will introduce background of Xiaying District. Moreover, we will provide the history and the progress. (4) The marketer: We will introduce the people and the units that work hard for this industry. (5) Special goose products: We will introduce the stores, products, and some creative product. (6) Students’ activities: We will show all the research activities which the students participated in. (7) Feedback: We will show the records, reflection in this topic.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1. Data collection and organization. (1) How to make the project more deeply? (2) How to make the data more clearly? (3) It is not easy to take the pictures about the projects. 2. Lacking of the experiences of interview. For all of us, it is fun for interviewing. However, it is also very nervous because we were afraid of asking the inappropriate questions. 3. Lacking of the experience of sharing and presenting. From sending questionnaires, presenting for classmates to reporting the projects, it is very difficult for us. We are all very nervous to do this. 4. Handling the progress and timeline. (1). The pressure about normal curriculum. (2). No holidays.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

1. No pains, no gains. 2. A journey of a thousand miles begains with a single 3. Self-Breakthrough, Create Future together At the Cyberfair, we have to breakthrough ourselves. We try our best to do this. We deeply believe we can do it.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In this project, we interviewed many people in the community. We knew and discovered many special characteristics about our environments. By discussing, collecting, researching, interviewing, and manufacturing homepage, we became the representative for Xiaying. We also combine the course in the seventh grade called “Community Empowerment.” We all think that we have the responsibilities promoting the characteristics for people.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We are exalted to spread our local products by manufacturing homepage. By using internet, we introduce and promote the core of Xiaying’s economy. First of all, we tried to know the environment about the community. Second, we caused a lot of discussion and feedback by questionnaires and interview. However, we were well liked by many stores in this project. For past three months, we became the envoy for this product. We learned to believe and connect. We believe that the development of the property will be better. We hope that the property will show a new appearance because of our project. Otherwise, we also hope that we can connect many local people to promote the special product for our community.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

For Ourselves: In cognitive aspects: We knew more about the property. In affective aspects: We realized that there many hard workers in each property. In technical aspects: We are used to the skills of interview, data collection and analysis. We learned many kinds of software and how to choose fresh geese.

For Families: In the project, teachers always informed our parents the details. And our parents always support us to participate. Otherwise, we shared our feeling with them.

For Classmates: From the start, many classmates asked us what we did in this project. When sending questionnaires in other classes, our project caused the seniors’ curiosity. We thought that we have made the classmates noticing the property belong to Xiaying.

For Teachers: This project can bring the school and community closer. Teachers can design the curriculum-based materials and make the teaching materials more close to our daily life. Teachers hope that students will develop self-potential and the ability of problem-solving.

For Community: There are many important people doing hard for this local property silently. By our introduction, we make people knowing more about these heroes and we hope to help the promotion of the property.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In this project, we took several times to interview many people who devoted to promote the property in Xiaying. The master of the Goosery-Mr. and Mrs. Shen, the goose stores on the Provincial Highway No. 19A, the member of Xiaying Farmers Association-Mr. Jiang, the former assistant in Xiaying Farmers Association – Mr. Yan, and the master of “Xiaying Goose Ecologic Farm” - Ms. Yu-Fang Li. We deeply appreciated their help to complete this project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

At this project, we learned some skill about technologic software. It is really good to us in the future. In the group, we knew what we can do, confirmed ourselves, and cooperated with others. We solved the problems and difficulties by cooperating. The activities made us trust each other and enhance our basic abilities. We did feel we grew up after finishing each process. Furthermore, it is fun for us to interview and introduce to our classmates. At the beginning, we were very nervous. After practicing, we can show our opinions and the outcomes generously. When we work more hard, we found more and more beauty of Xiaying. We should make our efforts to promote the property. Not only we know how to eat tea-smoky goose, but also we should let everybody know the important specialty.
