Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

We are an administrative district which is governed by Lanzhou city --Honggu district. There are 'Lanzhou beef noodle restaurants' in large streets and small lanes in Lanzhou, Lanzhou beef noodles are famous snacks in Lanzhou, and it is famous in the whole nation., The history of Lanzhou beef noodle has been more than one hundred and sixty years since now, it was famous in the whole world with rotten meat and fresh soup.

2. Summary of Our Project

The skills of Lanzhou Beef Noodle are unique in China. Lanzhou Beef Noodle is traditional Chinese food, it is characterized of its cleaness (Clean Soup) and colorful appearance with white (Radish White), red (Red Peppery Oil), green (fresh green parsley and garlic) and yellow (Golden Yellow of Noodle) paired perfectly with each other, and it is the most famous and welcomed in the whole China. Color, shape and taste of the other domestic beef noodles can’t be Compared with it, the main reason is the difference of around water, so a variety of main ingredients and accessories in beef noodles have been changed, therefore, it is very difficult to taste the real 'Lanzhou beef noodle' for most parts of the domestic consumers. Soup of Lanzhou beef noodles with original flavor only can be made in Lanzhou. Even though it was snacks, it has been beyond snacks in Lanzhou people’s eyes and become staple food, 90% of them have beef noodles in the morning.

Telecommunications broadband was used in our school, bandwidth is 4M, and optical fiber accesses to our computer room. Quality is reliable that my team members use this kind of network.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time is not enough. Four students in our team are in the third grade, last year they took part in a webpage making activity, so they have some experiences about webpage processing with the CISS webpage template of town and talent Company. But as middle school students, they do not have much time to research topics because of the college entrance examination, so they can only use the lunch time to take pictures, interview and make records in the weekend. The interview was blocked. It has more than 20 beef noodle restaurants around the school, it is the peak dining time after school, because the restaurant has food hygiene and safety standards, so it is not allowed to get in and out freely, and we have to go to operating room if we want to take a picture. Our team went two times, but all were refused. By means of students' parents and personal relationships, we wore work clothes into the operating room to take photos. Our English level is not high, because the Organizing Committee requested that entries must be English version, so we have to resort the teachers in town and talent Company.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Looking back the process in this game, we have a deep feel. Most people in Lanzhou often eat Lanzhou beef noodles, but do not understand the specific process, after less than a month's efforts, we have gathered all the information about Lanzhou beef noodles, to let more people understand the culture of Lanzhou beef noodle, we still find some relevant information about Lanzhou beef noodles online, according the explanation of chef, we recorded the whole production processes of Lanzhou beef noodle. Although webpage is not very beautiful, but when we thought it was our own hand-made, everyone was very excited. In the process we have learned a lot of things without on the books, learned a lot about culture, development and production process of Lanzhou beef noodles. We also feel the unity strength, especially students’ parents, thank them for helping us contact pulled-noodles site.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Through our live interviews, our humanistic quality, organization and coordination ability, practice ability, cooperation consciousness has been cultivated, to understand the social contribution of Lanzhou beef noodles. The event also contributes to my school curriculum needs: students are required to complete 6 goals in social activity class according to the new curriculum. In the process of investigation, study, visits and webpage making, students are encouraged and communicated with each other, not only increased our friendship, but also enhanced the team spirit, we understand that we should study the scientific cultural knowledge and skills carefully, and our social skills are also improved with exchanges of parents and chef. Through social practice investigation activities, our participation ability of social practice activities has been cultivated, we feel importance of scientific and cultural knowledge from the social practice, it is more helpful for us to learn all courses.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

In the finishing process of project, we have used telephone, computer, digital camera, U disk, recording the Photoshop, Microsoft, Word, Internet, Explorer etc. The software was provided by the teacher, digital camera was provided by the school, students’ parents are responsible for contacting chef. The chef of Lanzhou beef noodle fully affirmed on our work, consumers from all circles of life show their emotions with our 'Questionnaire'. We also received their warm welcome.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In this activity, our roles are 'small reporters'. We counseled students, family, friends and chef in live interview, explained to them the purpose and intention of this activity, and got their support.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Parents, chef and respondents were moved by our careful interview, we collected a large number of data about Lanzhou beef noodles, and let chef is full of hope with their occupations. We also hope that our website can play a role for the future of Lanzhou beef noodles, improvement of beef noodle is put forward in the questionnaire, it has played a positive role to spread the Lanzhou beef noodle.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

It was very meaningful that we participated in the webpage contest activity last year. We were confident when the teacher recommended us to take part in another webpage making activities. With the teacher's leading and guidance, we had an idea about our plan, and we began to work with great interest. We were very confident when we thought that our works and our names would be famous on the Internet. Our interpersonal communication has been excised, and we have learned a lot of things without on the books through participating in this activity. In the process of interview, to find information on the Internet and webpage making, we also feel the importance of teamwork, and we deeply know that one individual might not finish the task. This is a rare opportunity, we all cherish.
