1. Description of Our Community
Qijiang River, one of main tributaries of the upper reaches of Changjiang River, is located on the right bank of Changjiang and originates from Xishui County in Guizhou Province. It runs northwards to be joined by Mugua River and enters into Chongqing at Yangjiao Township in Qijiang County, then it runs through Jiangkou Village in Jiangjin along the direction of northwest and finally joins the Changjiang River. Our school is located at Xihu Section of Qijiang River. There are beautiful mountains and pleasant scenery along the river. The natural landscape enjoys exceptional advantages while the human landscape has long history. Within its river basin locates Tonggu Beach which is known as the first place for rafting in the Southwest China because of its complicated environment. There you can see phallic totems that reflect Bayu culture and that are rarely seen throughout the country but in Chongqing. You can also visit the wonderful stone carving of different Buddhas at Shimen Temple as well as famous antique street left from Ming and Qing Dynasty in Dongxi. And you can enjoy farm-flavored fish, too. All of those scenic spots have formed an integrated tourist route and attracted many tourists from all over the world.
2. Summary of Our Project
We aim to innovate on the subject through practical investigation, research and deep thinking. Students are encouraged to truly and objectively express their thought, attach importance to their involvement and get trained through practice. During personal practice, they do research independently and solve problems by comprehensively using their existing knowledge and experience. In this way, they have learned how to study and get developed in humanistic spirit and scientific literacy as well as how to communicate with other people. In addition, they also strive to increase their knowledge and master some basic skills in information technology, so as to enrich the webpage.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We have encountered many difficulties in material collecting and webpage making. This time we do special research on Qijiang River whose information is difficult to gather. At the beginning, we searched relevant information on the Internet and then in order to collect more, we went there on foot to take photos. When went there for the second time, we happened to run into an old boatman, then we made an interview with him from whom we learned about many new things. The third time I went there, we saw many people fishing by the river and some water birds and ducks playing by the side of reeds. We felt tired and hungry on the way home because of long walking, but we really gained quite a lot. When collected, sorted and made webpage, the network in our school always broke off or disconnected from the Internet, which made we worried that we could not finish the work on time, so we had to first edit texts on the computer and then uploaded them onto the webpage when network was in normal service. Because most of us were green hands, we had to do the work by learning, hereby we would like to express our great gratitude to Teacher Jiang and Teacher Ling.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
The activity has been greatly supported by school leaders and teachers. Through getting closer to nature, we have broadened our vision and strengthened social practical ability. We also have learned from the activity that “where there is a will, there is a way”.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Quality education is aimed to teach students how to study, live and cooperate, to cultivate students’ humanistic literacy, organizing and coordinating ability and team spirit, as well as to educate students about local customs and international current politics. We choose Qijiang River as our research target in the hope that our investigation and research will make them learn well about the mother river and experience its unique scenery and special culture. We also hope that through website designing, students can be led out of classrooms to feel the society and involve in practical activities, thereby getting improved in their ability of social practice, social adaptation and cooperation. Furthermore, we also expect that under the proper guidance of teachers, students are able to do simple special research and exploration, thus experiencing the fun of those activities. Therefore, during research, except that we demonstrate students’ research achievements on the website, we also hope that the special research can make students ready to contribute to the hometown and publicize it, and finally seek the most original ecological development programs for Qijiang River.
