4. Problems We Had To Overcome
There were some challenges that we should face and overcome when we conducted the project. The first was to make the solid and full commitment team. The team members were from different classes because the project was an extracurricular activity. It was not easy to have one voice from different perspectives. The teachers also should have one view how to organize the students and how to commit to the job descriptions. The other challenge was the fund support from school. We did not have any financial support for the project from school, so the students and the teachers should find our own fund.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
It is a meaningful experience for the students and the teachers to participate in International Schools Cyber Fair. The students can have real life learning experience by conducting a research, interviewing, analyzing the data and reporting. It will enhance our school’s credit on the implementation of life skill learning and will be the pride of our community if we are the winner.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
The cyberfair project is addressed to fulfill our curriculum structures: • X1: English is used as the media of instruction in teaching English, Math, science and technology • X2: The Topics which are discussed in English class shoud embrace the topics which have been learnt in Science Class and Technology • X3:Learning English should be fasilitated by technology, information and telecomunication • X4: Learning English should encompass cross cultural understanding • X5: Learning English should support the development of the students’ mutiple intelegencies The theme of our Cyber Fair project is Local attraction which is related to one of our standard competences of descriptive text for the seventh and eighth grade. The goal of the project is to make the students to become aware of the resources in the area in which they live. The students should identify some local placesthat might be interesting spots for visitors to their community to see. Students investigate and write articles on these locations to gain a better appreciation for what their own community has to offer and to create a power point presentation. The students also do the interview to the community near the tourism spots and make the report. The students and the teacher are expected to gain a new understanding on the local attractions and how the places can affect the community. The project team members also have new knowledge how to build a website to publish their work. The teachers have played an important role in the school community to establish an idea for teaching with technology and how to link the learning with real life. Teaching with technology will bring lot of benefits not only for teachers but also for students. The students will be more interested to actively engage in the learning process by using the method.
