Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Guide County is located in Qinghai Province on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The clear water of Yellow River, flowing through Guide County, attracts lots of visitors from home and abroad. With the fast development of global industrial economy, the emission of greenhouse gas is increasing, and the global climate is warming, natural disasters occurs frequently. Premier Wen Jiabao said, “It is the common mission of human beings to curb climate warming and save our planet. Only positively practicing low-carbon life, can we create a green tomorrow.

2. Summary of Our Project

Through the investigation and study of low carbon, it made us more in-depth understanding of the concept and significance of the low carbon, and called on everyone to protect our natural environment, not to destroy it. Low-carbon life does not only tell us what we can do, but how we can do. With its emergence, it attracts people’s attention and makes people think that what he does for low carbon today. Through our propaganda, the students begin to pay close attention to low carbon, and do it from ourselves.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:none

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Due to the layout adjustment in our school, there is a network computer room, and only a few computers can be used to surf the Internet.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We had many difficulties in collecting material and making web pages. This theme of project is about low-carbon life, which is difficult to collect. At beginning, we searched the material on the Internet. However, we did not know about what low carbon is and why we do it. And we did not know where we should start from. Later our teacher interpreted it, and we decided to start from the trivial side. For collecting materials about low carbon, we went to interview and take photographs, such as interviewing teachers and students. Fortunately, the head teacher of our class very supported us to make web pages. When we first asked a leave for going out to collect materials, we were afraid of refuse and blame. However, our teacher allowed us at once. Our teacher said the class in afternoon was not important, and encouraged us to take part in more practical activities. Sometimes, we needed to go to computer room to organize materials at noon. It took up our time of individual study. So we missed some courses. So we seriously made web pages while studying. After all, the first year of junior high school is important. In addition, Li Laoshi, our instructor, was busy in work while instructing us in web page making. He was very laborious, which I herewith acknowledged with best thanks. Although we met with some difficulties, we harvested a lot, opened our mind, and learned a lot of things that were not taught by textbooks.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The monographic study obtained the strong support from school leadership and teachers. It opened our mind and enhanced our ability of social practice. While collecting materials, our interpersonal skills were enhanced and our minds were opened. We learned web page making and picture processing. The monographic study and the activity of green initiative are held successfully, which makes us understand 'where there is a will there is a way'.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In general school teaching, students mainly study some basic knowledge. In the activity, we mainly did social practice. It connects our school knowledge with practice, opens our mind, and makes us understand the importance of low carbon to our lives. Although, we met with many difficulties, we learned some knowledge that was not taught by textbooks. We benefit a lot from the activity. In the practice, while we are collecting and sorting materials, discussing, developing interview skills, pre-planning, writing research report, and making web pages, it trained our abilities, such as interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, materials organizing, picture processing, text editing, web station designing, and web site building, etc. It is our treasure learning experience, which is our wealth.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

This monographic study not only made us understand the low carbon, but also knew more about the home culture, history. While collecting materials, organizing and discussing, training interview skills and pre-planning, writing the research report, and making web pages, our abilities were improved, which was a treasure learning experience for us. In the interview of teachers and students, our publicity had a certain influence on them. We were full of enthusiasm and confidence in interview. Interviewees were in the affirmative for our performance. They thought that after our propaganda, the waste in school dining room was decreasing, and the students rarely wasted paper. We hope to propagate the significance of low carbon through the DigChina.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In the completion of the monographic study, we learned not only the computer technology, but also the importance of environment. The environment protection is to protect the exhausting resources on the earth, and protect the foundation of our survival. We want to make everyone know about environment protection and resources are closely related to everyone, it is not only for future generations, also related to the survival of society. As long as we do it from ourselves, start from little things, we make a joint effort and perseverance, we will save a good future for society, also for ourselves. Only in this way the green hills contain eternal grace, and the clear water is forever.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

For the successful completion of the project activities, first of all, thank Qianxiang Wancai Technology (China) Co., Ltd.
