Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan locates at the west of Taiwan Strait. It is a bridge that connects Pacific Ocean and China. Since the businesses between countries become much busier, ports have been renewed frequently, and Kaohsiung plays an important role in it. Kaohsiung was called “takau” until Japanese colonic rule, Japanese rewrote as Kaohsiung with the assonance of “takau”, carrying out the assonance in 1920. During the Japanese colonial period, the Kaohsiung port was built, and the purpose was to use it as a gangplank to extend the colony toward to Southeast Asia. The busy port operation contributed the economic prosperity of Kaohsiung and made it the second biggest city in Taiwan. The special shape, path of the river and mountain here, made it a nature shield to the Kaohsiung port .The scenery is very beautiful and it differs from season to season. It also ornaments every corner in Kaohsiung. The friendliness and enthusiasm of these people melt the ice-cold atmosphere of the urbanization. Here, Kaohsiung is surrounded by love, harmonious and sea breeze.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We had a hard time doing the Cyber fair. Although we had repeatedly rebuffed by respondents, we never give up. Owing to our enthusiasm and spirit of perseverance, we still learn a lot and gained lots of presious memories. Our skills such as dealing with people ,discussing, timing, and communicate with teamwork have progresses in the process , but it gave us more chances of hone. These cooperation and efforts would become our sweetest memories.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Originally, we live in this scenic city, Kaohsiung. After data collection, site visits and special experiences, we have known more harbor culture about Kaohsiung. Therefore, took part in the Taiwan Cyberfair is a great opportunity for us to merge our practical experiences and the knowledge in the textbook. Perhaps, we usually can only be e, but by interviewing and discussing with our members again and again, let us closer to the local people, and things. In addition to having more communication experiences and adaptability, but we also saw the value of the industry, historical changes and moved, thinking carefully again about the message which provided by respondents and historical data, those traces of past showed vividly in our mind. After we deeply experience the things that schools do not teach us, they become our future collection of the most valuable experiences.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Doing the Cyberfair takes us a lot of time. We are often tired and sleepy. We even gave up once for this reason, but we still helped one another. Because of the teacher and senior’s help, we can complete this project.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Thanks to out seniors helping, we can soon knew how the do the project.

We are so glad that we were so lucky to meet these helpers.. And let us knew a lot of things which were already forgotten, they told us a lot of history they faced. Also, they made us know what difficulty both them and us may face in the future. Plus, they show us the things could only seen in the history. Thanks them very much, to let us know many things that we did not have chance to see in the past. Therefore, we strongly know we need to share these things with everybody.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Thanks to the Cyber fair, every student from different classes gathered. At first, we didn`t know each other, but now we are a team. Although we faced a lot of difficulty, we still finish it by ourselves. To our surprise, no matter what interview or research, we finished them by ourselves. Because many people helped, we gained a great amount of information. The most important of all, we become a tightly-knit team. It is worthy enough! In the weekend, we also interviewed officer who work in Kaohsiung Harbor.
