Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The community we researched is Wanhua district in Taipei. The original name of Wanhua district is Monga, which is the transliteration from the aboriginal language of Ketagalan, meaning the pirogue. Wanhua is one of representative districts of Taiwan. Since it is the origin of the capital, it not only plays an important role in the history of Taipei, but also the premier district of Din Tao arts.

2. Summary of Our Project

The local culture and belief are parts of Taiwan traditional custom. Although it has been a long time in the history of Din Tao, the culture is in decline in the modern society. Fortunately, the recent movie, Din Tao: Leader of Parade, shooting by a Taiwanese director, Fung Kai, has aroused concern of young generations and the public. We will try to break the stereotype of Din Tao in our project to create an environment fitting with this Taiwanese tradition.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We have been through the challenge of time arrangement, differences of opinion and serious argument. However, we did not give up and solved problems together. Even though the project was exhausting and time-consuming, we never felt regretted. We have tried our best to present Din Tao culture and will prove our success to everyone.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

To enjoy the sweetness of success, you have to never give up with perseverance. We started without understanding the local arts. After the project research, now, we want to promote the beuty of Din Tao arts to the world.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We have learned many things which are not in the school syllabus. We have learned proper manners and communication skills during interview and questionnaire. We have applied what we study beyond data searching and having fun during the production. Everyone has put a lot of effort in the research. We persisted together and have learned the importance of team work through the frustration of disappointment and complain. Everyone has tried their best and been responsible to their part of work. Because of the competition, we have learned a lot both in the ways of academic and value of life. It was not easy but it is worth it.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Telephone, library, questionnaire, interview, camera, and computer software.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We not only collected information from books and web but also interviewed local people face to face. At the beginning, they were shy and nervous. After understanding the purpose of our project, they event presented the performance to us so that we could film it. We analyzed the questionnaire and use animation to make the content interesting to read. As an ambassador, we hope Din Tao is more than a kind of local arts. What we want to tell the world is that Din Tao is the spirit of Taiwan.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We have used software we never tried before such as Flash, Dreamweaver 8, Power Director and PhotoImpact 10. We have realized and learned the importance of team work and communication. Communication is crucial link in the team work.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The relative of our member serves in Shuen Tien Temple. We listed several questions and wished him could do us a favor. It was the first time he was interviewed. He was so nervous that his hands were trembling all the way in the interview but still tried his best to answer us clearly. Therefore, we have tried our best to accomplish our project and hope there will be more people in the world knowing the Din Tao arts. We think it is the best way to appreciate their kindness and patience.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We realize the problem of stereotype through the project. However, the situation is improving. The arts of Din Tao have become thrive. The way of performance differs from the past. The stereotype has started breaking under the new and creative style of performance. During the project production, we have learned a precious lesson. The public used to ignore the local culture. However, the consciousness of local culture has prospered. Through the media broadcasting like movie, TV and publications, more and more people know Din Tao is a part of our national culture.
