Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The southern mountain of Ningxia is located in Hilly and Gully Region of Loess Plateau which is in the middle reaches of the Yellow River with fierce soil erosion, belongs to the mountainous or semi-mountainous with the harsh natural environment, bad traffic and undulating terrain, the ecological environment is very fragile, prominently displays in: the serious soil erosion, wind erosion and desertification disaster, the shortage of water resources, drought disaster problems, bad natural environment makes the southern area of Ningxia have low level of productivity, people are living in poverty, per capita income has been lower than the average level in Ningxia, it has shown that a side water and soil can't afford people in reality.So many people move to Taole to live.

2. Summary of Our Project

Through the interview with the immigration village and pension service center, we understand the life situation of migrant people, one by one to understand the situation of pension, labor, education, and fully aware of the situation of the people who had ever translated from southern mountain area of Ningxia to Tara, let us feel a lot.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Data collection. As Ningxia is located in Northwest China, economy, science and technology is not developed, information about immigration is few in the literature, the network data is also few, it presents a challenge for the collection of data to us. The limited conditions. Because the computer is needed in entire process, so the school computer room is not opened to us in any time, we have to collect material in spare time. There is no computer in our home, so the entire schedule is delayed. The traffic problem. Since we need a bus to go to immigration village to have an interview, parents and teachers are worried, in order to rest their heart, we need to get the data consolidation, to get the most valuable materials in the shortest time. We have classes during the day time, and we have no more time to communicate with the teachers, so some works are not convenient, so, after school, we have to communicate with the teacher for a while and then go home.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The activity was supported by many teachers and students, through the interview, not only let me learn many ways to communicate with people, but also know a lot of knowledge about immigration, enhance our social practice ability; through making webpage, we knew many computer skills. Through the activity, let me understand that we must be successful if we dare to think and to overcome difficulties!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In the information technology course, we asked the teacher about computer knowledge of making webpage with the limited time; we asked Chinese teacher to teach us how to write material and other issues, consulted some national policies on immigration to the political teacher. With the guidance of teacher, we completed the relevant content of the activities smoothly.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

When the project is being completed, we collected pictures with the computer, digital camera, digital video, mobile hard disk helped us copying data, we contacted with all the students with mobile phone to go out for an interview at weekend. We made use of Dreamweaver 8, fireworks 8, ACDsee, 5, flash, word, Internet Explorer in Cyberfire.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

From deciding subject to the completion of the production, we visited the immigration village and Hong Xiang Village, Taole happiness Park and Tara pension service center, in Hong Xiang Village, we interviewed elderly, middle-aged man who worked here, women who took care of children at home, children who lived here, teacher in kindergarten, staff in the village committee, in Taole happiness park, we interviewed elderly and staff, we told our special plan to them, at the same time, we also welcomed their immigration, only to walk out from the poor mountainous area, the elderly can live in comfort in their old age, the family will rich, the children will have a good education.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

After we carried out this project, through communicating with us, many people knew the hardships of the immigrants, we understood that it was not distant things on TV, but the real things that happen to us, we have more understanding of their situation, students no longer have a prejudice with them, and learn together, many people also have no discrimination with them...More and more people know their lives, I believe that immigrants must be happy in the strange land!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The usual course is quite heavy, we don't have much time to go out for an interview, so we have little knowledge of immigrants, when students knew the situation, actively introduced the relocation of their home to us before, living environment now, some of the students invite us into their village to do the interview, and he is to be our guide, so we have the successful Hong Xiang Village tour. In Taole happiness Park, young sister Li took us to visit the service center, so that we can get more information. With their help, our interview, data collection can be successfully completed. Thank them.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the process of making the website, we found that not only frontpage can do webpage, but also there is so exquisite software Dreamweaver can be used, or there are many kinds of software we never heard! In concentric public kindergarten, we act as children to listen to the 'teacher' to teach us. It was so late when we went home from the immigration village that we almost walked back for more than 20 km. Through this activity, we realized that we had prejudice to immigrant children was wrong, we must help them adapting this place, and learning together!
