International Schools CyberFair Project Narrative
Title: The Green Building, the Pride of Taiwan--Beitou Branch of Taipei Public Library

Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Beitou Distract is located on the north of Taipei City. This area is famous for its hot spring in nature. The Branch Library of Taipei-Beitou Library is really an unique one is this community. Matching with the natural scenery in this area, this library has been famous for its structure, which is 'GREEN'. Surrounded by the beautiful Beitou Graden, the library effects the community the concept on the enviroment protection to people here.

2. Summary of Our Project

This project is to introduce the green building-Beitou Library, which is the branch library of Taipei City. The library is built by concepts of enviromental protection,which shows a complete example to the people the importance of our down grading environment to be saved in a hurry. We would like to report this library through the environemntal protection viewpoint with its structures and effections to the Beitou community.

The connection speed to internet is low and we've try to improve our connection speed.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Because we had been delayed by the competitio in Cyberfair Taiwan, we participate the international Cyberfair is late and we try our best to catch up with the pace. Further, the translation Chinese to English is slow and hard. Building website is also working at the same pace as translation. Unfortunately, The Chinese New Year in in the mid of our process, we had to stop for nearly 10 days for the holidays. Now we have built the website almost near to completeion and students are joining together with teachers adn helpers to finish our project.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1. Our poroject is fit he catagory of 6 as Environment Awareness. 2. In this project, students do a lot of various activities as following (1)Learning the conecpts of environemt protection with field works, extra activities in school and the involvement to the community. (2) Building wersiite is hard and time-consuming. students also learn some skills to transform their project content to the website. (3) Learning the importance of team work which they can compromise to each other during the process. (4) Playing the majoy proclamers to the community and the school to notified the importance of Earth environment throught the project.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1.The operation of PCs and Internet connection skills with the searching skills in Google. We use more than 8 PCs and notebooks. 2.Knowing how to use web-building software and art software to finish the project. 3.Learning the skills of interviewing to people in the community and related persons of the project. 4.Learning the researching skills in field works and visiting the library to fetch the information we want.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

First, we are interested in the environmental protection and the green building is one of the trends to make the Earth greener. We think it is important to make the best of our project to inform people to cherish the earth environment. Second, we had introduced the greening building through various researches, field works, visiting related persons, school activities and building the website. These efforts are totally supported by our school, the community and some official public services. Therefore, we would like to walk in front of the people to proclaim to make public about the environmental green concepts.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Supproting is limited but we've tried to seek useful sources. Visiting the Beitou Library, the designers of the library, people in the community and some related official organizations and leaders. We also invite people ecperienced with web design to give us suggestions. Doing extra activities at school are another part of our project. Students learn more from this activities and we also were praised by thhe people in the community, though we are just kids. With our website, we completely show our research to make the environemnt protection concepts clearly to the community and us.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Students families support the project and teachers are eagerly involved to guide students how to doing the researches. Further, we are luckly to visit some people who are willing to help us on websitie building and providing informatioin to us. Each pictures and contents are created by ourselves and are permitted to people who help us. We would like to pay great apperciation to them.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

1. Environment protection is important and should be educated since childhood. 2. Digging into the project, we found that a green building is not easy to be built because there are lots of consideratons to be designed at the beginning. 3. Studing this project makes our members to know more than what the school classes had taught to us.
