Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cih-Sheng is located in the northeast part of Changhua City, located within Changhua County in the central Taiwan. Changhua City embraces a lot of great people, abundant cultural resources and delicious cuisine. In Changhua City, Bagua Mountain is a great resort for people to visit on holidays. Nan Yao Palace is a temple for people to worship Matsu. And moreover, Changhua Meat Ball is famous around the nation, and many people come to Changhua City to taste it.

2. Summary of Our Project

Cih-Sheng, a home for people with disabilities and mentally challenged children, is located in Changhua City. For those people who live in there, Cih-Sheng is like a big family where they can find love and care. Through the education in Cih-Sheng, they have a chance to develop their potential, so they can learn how to live independently and make a living on their own in the future. Furthermore, many people give their help and donate necessities and money to them. These kind-hearted people really help and encourage them a lot. In our project, we want to introduce Cih-Sheng so that more people around the world can know the place of love and warmth in Taiwan.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The first problem is the making of the project website. We learned to make our project website by asking our teachers and practicing a lot. The second problem is the translation of our project into English. Since English is not our native, we had problem translating our website. However, with the help of the dictionary and our teachers, we finally made it.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Learn to love, love to learn. When we first met the students with disability in Cih-Sheng, we were shocked. However, after being together with them for hours, we found them nice and kind. In the process, we learn to share love with everyone. Moreover, we learn to cherish what we have owned.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In our project, we visited Cih-Sheng and helped students there. We learned to work with others, to love people around us and to cherish what we have owned. Moreover, we used technological tools to make our project website, and the use of the Internet was a great help when we needed to search for information.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used digital cameras to take photos and record images. We used the computer and the Internet to search and collect useful information. Moreover, we used the software, Notepad++ and Photoimpact, to make our website. All of these tools were really helpful to do our project research.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In our project, we visited Cih-Sheng and did volunteering activities there. We interviewed the dean and worked together with other volunteers from other clubs. Moreover, we walked into the community to send the flyers about an activity held by Cih-Sheng. People in the community praised us a lot for what we had done for Cih-Sheng.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Cih-Sheng is a charity organization where students with disability can have a home. In our project, we built a website to introduce Cih-Sheng so that more people in our community will know Cih-Sheng better. Besides, we helped collect the used things and send the flyers about Cih-Sheng's activity, which were both helpful to Cih-Sheng.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In our project, we interviewed Ms. Yang, the dean of Cih-Sheng. She shared lots of ideas and information with us. We also interviewed Ms. Liu, who shared her work in Cih-Sheng. Through their help, we have a better understanding about Cih-Sheng. Besides them, many people also provide great help for our project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

When being together with students in Cih-Sheng, we found them friendly and kind. Besides, after visiting Cih-Sheng, we found it was a great charity organization and many kind people work hard to help people who need help. All of us were really moved by their hard work.
