1. Description of Our Community
Alishan Forest Recreation Area is a famous logging area since Japanese area, especially junipers’quantity and quality is best in Taiwan, because of logging lead to the formation of village.The cause of logging decline that village was not prosperous anymore but scenery of Alishan is still attractive. Alishan’s Five “ Enchanted Moments”are sunrise, sea of clouds, high-mountion forest railway and glow at sunset so it attracts many toursts visit here.
2. Summary of Our Project
In order to deliver cypresses the Japanese had built an Alishan railway in Japanese era. Its length was 75 km.from Chiayi station to Zhaoping station. Alishan Forest Recreation Area was a well-known logging area at that time. Some lines were originally constructed by the Japanese Colonial Government to facilitate the logging. They led to Tashan, Mianyue and Tfuya even to Tatajia was furthest. The Chushan Railway was built to transfer tourists to the sunraise viewing platform area by R.O.C. G

The internet education of Taiwan began in 1998. The computer and the equipment of internet came into every school at that time. But the equipment is only in the computer lab. So the teacher had to bring their students to the lab for learning computer. Teachers and students can log on the internet in their homeroom in 2014. So everyone can log on the internet right away.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Research Area: The distance of Alishan Railway from Chiayi to Zhushan about 80 kilometers. If we want to research whole railway, it is a little bit difficult to us. Because if we want to take train that we just on weekend available, and some stations can’t reachable( they are closed ), so we choosed the recreation area for our research area because our school is located in this area. Research Time: we use Integrative Activities classes on every week. Every time we were not only researching railway but also to visit somebody always in hurry. The best way is on our free time which is on Wednesday afternoon to complete it. Because on Wednesday we just have half day at school.
Data collection and licensing: About Alishan Railway, there are lots of datas can be found on web, but some are wrong. For example: Dueikaoyueh station, Zhushan line start served in 1985 but on web shows in 1915. Some pictures can’t download because it is not allow. Fortunately, we found another web site – Cyberisland. Teldap – gave us license and some students’ parents offer old pictures that we can understand history of Alishan.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Although we live in Alishan for many years but we don’t understand much history of Alishan. Via this explored let we know more about history of Alishan. We hope we could have more classes like this to find more something about Alishan.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
1.To put into classes: Literature: The point of web pages is not on skill, is on contents, so we combined interview with literature class then wrote composition every time. Art: Mr. Zhu taught us how to draw a train. He was born in Alishan and his father was a train driver. So we drawed a sketch of train then post it on our web page. On computer class: Our teacher taught us how to key in and search web site.
2.The skill we have learned: Looking Information up in a Computer: we never learn how to surfing the internet before. But we know how to google something which we need now since we had computer class. Composition: We must write a composition before we do a web page, so the skill of writing is more better than before. Skill of Take Photos: Mr. Huang has taught us how to take photos, so all photos of our web pages were taken by ourselves. Interview: In the beginning we didn’t know how to do a interview, but time after time we do it in the best. Web Pages: To do web pages is the last job. We did it by ourselves and used skills all we had learbed on every class.
3.The role we play in our school community: Let Alishan Forest Railway is more attraction: Many tourists visit Alishan just watch sunrise and giant trees by trains, they stay at here just for short time. So we want to do something let tourists can visit somewhere where are tourists visit seldom or never and to find different scenery in Alishan. To wake up memories of people who lives in Alishan: When we searched some informations about Alishan even asked our grandparents. Some of our grandparents have been living at here since they were chidren. By this search for our web pages that we know history of Alishan.
