Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cishan was called 'Fan Shu Liau' before, and was very suitable for banana cultivation in agriculture. According to the records, Cishan’s cultivation of banana started from 1925. Cishan was ever known as 'Banana Kingdom' because it grew many good-quality bananas. In Cishan, in addition to its good bananas, sugar business (sucrose made from Cane) had brought great profits from the Japanese colonial era to the post-war era. Today.

2. Summary of Our Project

'Fan Shu Liau' public school founded in the Meiji thirty-one, namely AD 1898, was formerly known as the National Primary School now create when Qishan, was designed for Taiwanese schools, the history of 'Fan Shu Liau' school also witnessed public schools exchange,In school there were two monuments, Zhongshan Hall has a mausoleum housed within the cabinet, as has been housed in a century-old North Building classrooms, under the arch above the circular column shape is quite distinctive.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time pressure: We have many activities at school and for joining this project, we used the break time to surf the net and looked for more detail in the library and also to share, discuss, upload, have meeting, assign the jobs, contact the interviewees and interview. Furthermore, we needed to arrange the pictures and notes we had, correct the documents as well as making the website. For finishing all these jobs, we needed to spend our time well and it’s great that everybody worked so hard so we could go through all of these difficulties.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Information technology is one of the fastest ways to receive the newest information and understand this world. As computer is usually be thought as a relaxing material but learning material by students, we try to make them collecting information and doing the research through the internet. Furthermore, letting students doing this project with their own such as thinking their own question during the meeting, recording the information they received, making a visitation to the monuments, etc. This project makes improvements on not only the self management skill to students, but also gives them a wider view on this world. We hope we can give our best report to everyone through the Cyber Fair this year.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The research team for this project is mainly form with the year 6 students in our school. Therefore this project is on the students view point and their understanding. To understand the history of Fan-Shu-Liau school students must look up some information from the internet. Then, we prepared a few interview with the local old professions through the telephone. We have received lots of information and making good relationship with the local community during the interview to the old professions. Thus we hope we can make a good effort on this project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Old Qishan area called Fan Sui Laos, Qishan in agriculture is very suitable for the cultivation of bananas. According to records; Qishan species of banana about starting around 1925. Qishan area once known as Taiwan's 'banana kingdom' because Qishan banana production, good quality. Of course, in addition to bananas once glory, starting from the Japanese colonial era, cane sugar production is mainly used as raw material until the postwar era, Sugar Qishan still bring significant economic benefits, now Qishan sugar mills, has been transformed Become tourist and ice supply main. 4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Before participating in Research Project, we refer to a number of books, Web sites, but the younger we learn best knowledge is still limited, although a computer network search easy, but the problem in detail and expertise are still inadequate; therefore in addition we ask teachers to schools, but also in cultural and historical studio interviews with the plight of local communities and local elders, so as not to fall into the blind men feeling the elephant.
