2. Summary of Our Project

The Paiwan is an aboriginal tribe of Taiwan. The majority of Paiwan people live in Taitung and speak the Paiwan language. The Paiwan people love art and have the best skills for embroidery and sculpture. Due to the influence of Paiwan culture, the costumeof Paiwan are delicate and gorgeous, especially in embroidery and glazed beads. Recently, there is no need to limit the decoration pattern of Paiwan with the development of society. Accordingly, Mrs. Chen set up “Mama Chen Studio” in taimali, Taidun County that inherits the craft of Paiwan and teaches people how to weaves Paiwan clothes and ornaments.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Arrangement of time: It is our first time to attain International Cyberfair, therefore, we are inexperienced in doing project. Although, teachers and seniors teach us how to do the research, it is difficult for us to arrange time properly. Due to lots of activities at school, it is a dilemma to make a choice between school works and project. 2.Skill problems: Time and tide wait for no man. When you try best to do something, it gets sweet feedbacks. After the project, we improve our computer skills, especially in web design. Although we are unfamiliar with dynamic images and frame settings, teachers support and teach us to finish them. 3.Teamwork: Teamwork is important to the project. We need to cope with schedules and make sure that no one gives up or is lazy. The key to success is perseverance.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

For beginners, it is difficult to collect information and organize data. Through Internet CyberFair, we learn useful knowledge and realize the importance of teamwork. Each of teammate makes effort to our project. Whatever difficulties we get, we have strong belief in ourselves. This is the main reason why we can make it.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Everyone has his dream, but it is fewer people who can success. Inheritance is easy to speak out but not for doing it. Through the project, we hope that more and more people understand the innovation and inheritance of Taiwan aboriginal culture which subvert stereotype. Moreover, we know the significance of collaboration and improve ourselves in many aspects, such as the development of confidence, perseverance of pursuing dream, staying hunger. To sum up, doing the project is an unforgettable experience for us.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

With the development of technology, it gets more and more people who leave traditional Taiwan culture behind. The research methods include field research, interview and survey. The purpose of ambassador is to introduce the aboriginal art of Paiwan culture in Taiwan and pass it down through the project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

As time goes by, the life of Paiwan has assimilated into Taiwanese culture. The Paiwan tribe only has its language without words. Therefore, it is difficult to preserve the traditional culture and it inherits culture from dictation of ancestors. Despite the fact that the aboriginal culture in Taiwan has disappeared gradually, it can be found aboriginal culture in Paiwan art. Therefore, we desire to research the reason why Paiwan culture is preserved. At the end of project, we perceive that “Mama Chen’s Studio” is the main reason that inherits the Paiwan art from ancestors.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Through interviews and surveys, we had the chance to meet and interview the founder. This project hopes to make people to cherish what they have and not to waste the resources given by the earth. Every sheet of paper deserves to be used meaningfully. There are three parts of references, including films, words, and pictures.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

As a proverb goes,” With persistence, an iron pestle can be ground down to a needle.” Compared with traditional lesson of school, we face a new challenge through International CyberFair. It takes plenty of time to communicate with teammates and overcome the problems such as computer skills, information collection and so on. During the period of project, we know the importance of collaboration, and unity makes strength. No matter how many frustrations we face, as long as we have confidence in ourselves and insist our goal, we can achieve it.
