1. Description of Our Community
We are students at “Ovidius” High School in Constanta, a big city located on the Black Sea coast, in the south-eastern part of Romania. We are proud to be Ovidists, because we are the ambassadors of one of the best high schools in our country and as our motto says, the stars are our target (“Per aspera ad astra”-Latin). Therefore, all of our students have every year very good academic results, both in current and final standard evaluations but also in contests and national and international Olympiads, mainly in the domains of sciences and technologies.
2. Summary of Our Project
Through this website, we illustrate just a small part of our traditions developed with the occasion of our National Day. In our articles we describe our traditional costumes, dances and music. We make a retrospective in the history of our country and pick up every detail that proves our Romanian roots. We present you our artistic nature, inherited from our ancestors, an aesthetic eye transmitted from father to son, from mother to daughter.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We did not have to overcome severe problems in our group, as we were well-organised. The only 'obstacle' could be the lack of time, owing to the fact that in this period of the year we take part in Olympiads and some other evaluations, which demand a considerable amount of time. There were no kinds of technical obstacles.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
This year we are focused on traditions and how to preserve them, therefore our school tries to develop a well-structured marketing technique that will promote our national traditions and present them to our descendants, in order not to lose them owing to the fast evolution we are facing.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
We started the project as a extra-curricular activity but we manage to integrate it to the wider context of the general goals of the education process in our school. The team of the students, and all the people that helped us, created a learning environment which supported both formal and non-formal education approach.
