Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

In the ancient Yongjing Township, the folk customs are simple and kind. There are many large-scale old buildings. The traditional architecture shows the Confucius’s ethics and filial piety, which assimilate into the paintings, couplets, poems, and places of traditional Chinese architecture. Among the operas, religious activities, ritual culture and proverbs, the good residents and the stable Yongjing were created. Yongjing Township is not only the hometown of Miaomu, but also famous in the rice cake, glutinous rice, red bean dumpling, meatball soup and fried rice moss. Visitors can enjoy the food in Yongjing.

2. Summary of Our Project

'Bowhia' is a name in Taiwan. This craft which called 'enamel' in China may have been for thousand years. People used to cherish all the hard-won things, even if they were ceramics. Broken ceramics will not be easily discarded. People always try to find ways to repair and reuse, so the 'renovate broken ceramics ' industry came into being. Nowadays, even if people no longer use this skill to repair their broken ceramics, Zhu Fangben is trying to preserve this cultural asset and make it a living art collection. Our special topic is to record the old craftsmanship that is about to disappear. And through interviews, video records for research, we used the web page to present the ancient early patchwork process, and proposed activation and revitalization program.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

YANGMING junior high school has a 100MB optic-fiber-based academic network which enables us to search for data and fill out our progress reports online without much trouble, and lends us laptop computers to allow us to update information anywhere at school via Wi-Fi.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

It was a brand new learning experience for students participating in Cyberfair 2019. We used to be led and taught by teachers in the past. Howerer for this project, we need to collect data independently, visit Master that have expertise in traditional areas, and participate in experiential activities. Fortunately, through sharing, teamwork, communication and coordination, we finished all researches and activities. Besides, we did not have enough time to know how to make web pages. Sometimes we had to ask some students to sacrifice their regular curriculum. It was difficult for us to find a time that we were all available for activities. Therefore it’s not easy to complete the research. It took time for students to learn and get familiar with the application of all software, in order to produce a great Cyberfair project website.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We learned many things that we could not learn from a regular school while working on the 2019 Cyberfair project. All experiences are very valuable and helpful to us. It is a valuable experience. For each activity, it was very important that we cooperated to accomplish it. Everyone had to do the best to contribute. We also learned that it was not easy to be as good as teachers, unless we have very strong perseverance to insist and proceed to the end. We had chance to have better understanding of our traditional culture through this activity, and promote our culture through the Cyberfair project. What we had done might be a combination of crafts, art and culture! We let people realize that Yongjing does not only have delicious food, fruit, vegetable, and historical sites, but it also has a unique old amazing craftsmanship.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The Ministry of Education announced the goal of the Grade 1-9 Curriculum which is to “train citizens to have the human-oriented mind, integration ability, democratic citizenship, local and international consciousness, and lifelong learning capability.” The experience of the Cyberfair project is very important to the students from which they learn to become initiative learners. In addition to the contents of the project, we have also learned others as the following: A. Learned to find problems, solve the problems, and continue the routine repeatedly. B. Learned to make good use of Internet to search for the data needed and learn web page design. C. Learned to cooperate with others, work in detail, and become responsible. D. Learned to get along with people with different personality, develop mutual trust. Learned to support each other. It is the biggest reward to us.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

A. Hardware Equipment used Computer Mobile phone Removable Hard Drive Book B. Computer softwareSoftware used Word 2003 PhotoImpact X3 FrontPage 2003 Windows XP Flash 8

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

When we started to research the Cyberfair project of “An Old Amazing Craftsmanship—Ceramics Stapling”, we interviewed Zhu Fangben and local people, collected data and created web pages to help people understand ceramics stapling and learn more knowledge about it. We participated in experiment to identify the best adhesive. We would like to introduce all we learned to all people in the world so that they could know the local art forms of ceramics stapling art in Yongjing more. We learned from the online youtube and the actual visits to understand the persistence of the master of the ancient art. We try to inherite the ancient art, and then carry out a series of special research and production. In the process of field visits, we found that the master of the ceramics stapling used the most sincere heart and the most exquisite craftsmanship to make the early and artistic art. We use this research topic to promote the preservation of the ancient culture of the ceramics stapling. We hope that we can share with people the beauty of the art of the ceramics stapling.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We contacted a disappearing craftsman in the community through the process of this research, and experienced his profession and passion. We showed our affirmation and respect to him in the interview too. For example, Zhu Fangben provided great help to us and invited us to his exhibition after our interview. We even hope to invite him to be the instructor of school club. He can help a lot in promoting ceramics stapling art. We conducted experiment of different rice. We found the most sticky rice. We hope to apply black glutinous rice to life technology in the future.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In order to collect data, we interviewed Zhu Fangben and one craft master. Zhu Fangben’s wife also explained for us about his collection. The elderly in the community become the target of our consultation. Young friends in the community became our survey respondents. Many other people helped us, consulted us, provided data for us, and helped us obtain ceramics stapling works. Without their great help, we could not finish this Cyberfair project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Through the special research on Local Music and Art Forms, we found that there are still many traditional cultures that need everyone's attention and preservation. The ceramics stapling is not just a broken bowl, but also a national culture. It needs to be preserved. More people are willing to come to the art collection. Disappearing art can be revived. We have encountered many setbacks and lessons. How to persuade to accept interviews and how to deal the improper collection of data? The entire content often fails to make a mistake. The lessons have made us grow slowly from failure. We understand the importance of division of labor and cooperation. We are no longer repeating the same mistakes. We were surprised to find the history of ceramics stapling. How to pull a hole in the hole and how to make a copper nail is an important key, which makes us very surprised. Finally, we needed to have strong perseverance to insist and proceed to the end. Every experience was valuable, and helped us a lot.
