1. Description of Our Community
Taiwan is a small island, measuring 394 km in length and 144 km in width; nevertheless, Taiwan is rich in geographical diversity and ecological variety. Due to its location on the Eurasian tectonic plate where the Philippine Sea plate slides under, Taiwan is, interestingly, elevating by approximately 5 mm each year—shaping a total of 258 mountains on the mainland; additionally, four out of eight national parks preserved are high-altitude environments, inviting a number of hikers from Taiwan and abroad to temporarily step away from their busy lives and embrace the tranquility of nature (“Geography & Climate”). Our predominant “local community,” is centered around Taipei and New Taipei city, as they are where all members of our group live, study, and socialize. A distinct culture in Taiwan, especially in urban areas like Taipei, New Taipei, and Kaohsiung City, is night markets—street markets operating at night with stands selling various items from foods to clothings in addition to hosting entertainment activities, such as ring tossing, dart shooting, Taiwanese Pinball, so on and so forth.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our project is mainly focused on sustainability connecting with the SDGs, such as SDG 9 industry, innovation, and infrastructure; SDG 11 sustainable city and community; SDG 12 responsible consumption and production; and SDG 13 climate action. Through researching online, we selected Laiwa Company as the company we are going to interview. We did not stop there—but delved deeper into pivotal environmental conceptions going hand in hand with our project. We researched FPC, rPET, and recycled net, which are all eco-friendly materials. Later, we sent out a survey about the responders' background knowledge regarding Laiwa Company, sustainable development goals, and the actions they have taken correspondingly. Additionally, we explored Laiwa's products which are all made from recycled materials such as rice husk. Our project is about sustainability and environmental protection actions connected to the SDGs.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:not sure
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
During this project, we encountered obstacles both in coordination and technical execution. With each team member handling different tasks, ensuring smooth collaboration was a challenge. To address this, we assigned roles based on our strengths and regularly tracked our progress together. We also faced technical difficulties, including formatting issues and media functionality problems, which required troubleshooting and teamwork to resolve. Additionally, gathering reliable research and contacting Laiwa Company presented a new challenge, as we had to verify the information and ensure accuracy. Despite these obstacles, our teamwork and perseverance allowed us to overcome them, making this experience both rewarding and educational.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Participating in the International Schools CyberFair has enhanced our communication, collaboration skills and deepened our understanding of our community. Moreover, CyberFair has inspired us to appreciate the innovative startups and entrepreneurial efforts that contribute to our community and drive advancements in our lives.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Different of subject-specific curriculum standards are shown in our study for the International Schools CyberFair project. Through the process of researching and interviews, we went about sustainability, company strategies, and communication, demonstrating our excellent research and inquiry skills. We demonstrated our critical thinking and problem-solving skills by showing Laiwa's business strategy, with a focus on the real world, especially during COVID-19. The clear and organized communication of my findings helps with research, writing, and organizing. Lastly, Laiwa’s environmental awareness of sustainability, linking it to environmental science and social responsibility. Overall, my project reflects on interdisciplinary learning that meets diverse academic.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
Throughout this project, the technologies that benefit the most are computers. By utilizing these technologies, we are able to research information about Laiwa companies and eco-friendly products they manufacture. Moreover, our team visited the offices of Laiwa company in December 2024, and encountered the CEO of Laiwa company. Oral interviewing the CEO of Laiwa company allowed us to understand more about the project we are investigating, and how different companies promote the use of eco-friendly products and technologies.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
Throughout the project, we had several opportunities to become ambassadors of our school and come into contact with some local businesses, organizations, and people. For example, when we compose an email to Laiwa Company requesting for an interview, we had an opportunity to make our ambitions and project recognized by major environmental companies; in terms of the survey analysis, we also became ambassadors of Laiwa Company, or, on a larger scale, Taiwan’s environmental organizations. By sending out the surveys to gauge public understanding and awareness of environmental practices, we shared brief explanations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental-friendly developments that go hand in hand with our project—which helped spread words about our goals and expected outcomes. Synchronously, through questioning about respondents’ acknowledgement of Laiwa Company in addition to proffering deeper insights into their contribution to Taiwan’s development, we highlighted the significance of national green businesses—thereby advocating for sustainability as a whole.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Our project makes a difference by spreading awareness about Laiwa Company's innovative approach towards waste rejuvenation. Through our website, people may learn about upcycling, sustainable actions, and the importance of reducing and reusing. We also aim to showcase Taiwan's commitment to environmental sustainability to global audiences. Our website has helped educate, motivate, and foster people to rethink their initiatives and actions on sustainability.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
In our community, the people around us, including friends and relatives play an important role not only in supporting us but also in inspiring our creative ideas. Their encouragement, assistance, and insights contribute to our growth and success. One example of this support is surveying. With the help of our friends at school, we were able to gather nearly 250 responses, providing us with valuable data for analysis and ideas. Their willingness to participate and spread the word made it possible for us to gain deeper insights and refine our ideas. Without their help, having such a dataset would even be more challenging. Not only practical support, our relatives also offer encouragement. Their spiritual and emotional support helps us stay motivated, especially during difficult times. Whether it's cheering us on, offering advice, or simply being there when we need comfort, their help plays a vital role in keeping us focused. The collective support from our friends and family does more than just assist us, it helps our creativity and strengthens our determination to achieve our goals. Their contributions remind us that success is not just an individual effort but a shared journey made possible by a strong and caring community.
