1. Description of Our Community
Taiwan is a small dynamic island known for its rich culture, bordered by the East China Sea to the north and the Philippine Sea to the east. Its breathtaking natural landscapes, from towering mountain ranges to rugged coastlines, hosting its diverse ecosystem, offer endless opportunities for exploration and connection with nature. Skyscrapers stretching into the clouds symbolize its modernized society and advanced technological innovation. Traditional Festivals bursting with color and energy light the island’s traditions, while the streets echo with the voices of friendly people, indicating a unique blending of culture from Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asian influences, and the island’s warmth. Indigenous culture holds a special place in Taiwan’s cultural heritage, representing thousands of years of history and tradition. From handicrafts and ceremonies to the beauty of traditional choir singing, performed in native languages, telling the stories of their spiritual beliefs, and passing down history and values through generations. Our research focuses on the importance of the inheritance of these cultures and its role in shaping Taiwan’s educational and cultural identity.
2. Summary of Our Project
In Taiwan, there are still biases and hardships among some of the indigenous people, families facing poverty, lack of education in rural areas, and cross-generational education are all common concepts. Our research discovered the importance of traditional cultural conservation and the lack of quality education in Taiwan's indigenous communities. Vox Nativa Foundation assists Indigenous families with various difficulties by providing free and high-quality education for future generations. Vox Nativa helps the children to create their confidence and set up their good behavior. The foundation provides support for the indigenous children to learn from each other, nature, and god through choir activities. They also emphasize the importance of preserving indigenous culture by implementing classes that teach students these cultural values. After interviewing Principal Ma, the founder of the association, and the students, we gained insights into the concept and value of cultural education. We hope to contribute and repay to society.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
Nowadays, the Internet is convenient and accessible for most individuals. The media provides instant access to information and enables online communication which increases our efficiency. Online documents allow group members to work together simultaneously to enhance our productivity and the quality of the content. The internet connection speed in our classroom is around 10.58 megabytes per second (MBPS) and the download speed is 2 MBPS. All members have internet access both at school and home, with a total of 12 mobile phones and more than 12 laptops. We use these devices for planning, researching, data collecting, creating our website, and organizing, and communicating with several different online apps. Since our school, Kang Chiao International School Xiugang Campus, is located up in the mountains, the connection may sometimes be unstable; however, it barely happens.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Throughout the project, there were no significant conflicts taking place that affected our project entirely; yet, while collecting public opinions, we discovered that the respondents weren’t as active as usual. In the beginning, we only received 39 responses in total which is deficient for us to analyze effectively. We decided to resend the invitation to encourage our friends and families to complete the survey, resulting in an impressive 187 responses that significantly enhanced our project. However, with only two classes a week for our CyberFair club, our members needed to attend winter training during the break to ensure we could complete the project on time. Unfortunately, many of us had already committed to other training camps and made plans for the break, which limited participation in the winter training. This lack of attendance affected our progress, making it challenging to coordinate efforts and meet our project goals effectively. But thanks to the convenient internet, we can communicate with each other online and manage to finish the project.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
In Taiwan, where preserving tradition and culture is more important than ever, education plays a key role in bridging the past and the future. Through this project, students from Kang Chiao International School Xiugang Campus explored the inspiring work of Vox Nativa Taiwan, an association that provides free, high-quality education to indigenous families while helping them embrace their cultural roots. Many of these families face poverty, a lack of resources in rural areas, and pressure to fit into society, but Vox Nativa offers them hope. Through choir activities and cultural lessons, the association helps children build confidence and take pride in their heritage. This project allows us to dive deeper into the concept by interviewing the founder, Principal Ma, and the students, sharing their thoughts on Taiwan’s indigenous education and culture. Along the way, our team learned valuable knowledge and understood difficulties in minor groups. It inspired us to take action — to share …
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
The CyberFair research project is different from the regular education format. We will not read textbooks, nor will we receive exams. Instead, we use our own research skills and interviews to accomplish the goal we set. We have to nourish our research skills and collaboration skills to complete good research for our homeland, Taiwan. The team members collaborate to solve problems through communication. “Teamwork makes the dream work”, by checking one another's work and research paragraphs, we spot one another's pros and cons. High-quality works were made through continuous modifications and communication. Throughout this project, we have improved our research and interview skills. We advance sentence structuring ability, as well as valid and reliable sources research skills. The competition provides an opportunity for us to introduce Taiwan's indigenous culture to the world, also improving our skills for future benefits. We are glad to represent our school, or even our country to enroll in this project as a global citizen and international competitor.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
Throughout this project, we mostly used our laptops and computers to research our topic. Every team member requires their electronic device, to research the information we ought to include in our project. Therefore, a total of 10 computers were needed. We use Google as our search engine for the project, which Google contains valid information and is one of the biggest online databases in the world. Moreover, Google includes several beneficial applications that assist us throughout the research process. For example, we use Google Forms as our tool to produce surveys for the public. Google Forms can carry up to at least 300 submissions, which is positive for our research. We want as much information as we can to do the research project. We also use Google Drive for our storage and organizing system. Google Drive is free for all users and can carry up to 10 gigabytes of files and saves, therefore it is an effective utensil for our project. Furthermore, we use Google Sheets to evaluate and confirm. Google Sheets also include alternative extensions, like creating graphs and diagrams During the interview session, we used higher quality cameras, two microphones, a camera tripod, and several iPhones that are 13 and above. We use high-quality cameras to ensure our photos and videos are high quality. We use tripods to hold the cameras to the perfect angle for video recording and photographing. If we do not acquire a tripod during the interview, the video shots will not be stable and affect the quality of production. Additionally, by using microphones we can capture clear sound of the interviewer and the person who gets interviewed. Lastly, we use NicePages to create our stunning and engaging website for the research project, with the following applications available for Mac, Windows, and more programs.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
As the ambassadors in the project, students effectively use surveys and research to explore deep into the information the student determines. The result and statistics of the survey enable the student to receive enough information for the topic and other’s feedback. Moreover, students’ collaboration in exchanging their opinions and ideas contributes to the project's quality by reinforcing one another’s viewpoints and applying them to the project. As the spokesperson, the students would need to assign themselves to several roles during the interview. Since the team represents the school, therefore the student should fully show their effort toward the project. During the interview, the students should divide themselves into the groups in charge of interviewing, filming, photographing, and notetaking. Each group contributes a different aspect of the project for our team. Furthermore, dividing groups makes the whole interview process look more professional and reliable, implying the following techniques can increase our school’s value.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Kang Chiao, as a school teaching inclusively a spectrum of comprehensive international perspectives, collaborating with Vox Nativa which has a main focus on advocating ethnical cultures and preserving traditions, draws awareness of students on the topic of inheritance and identity. As we interviewed students in the Vox Nativa Academy, we understood that the majority of students joined the academy in search of their own ethnical identity and to inherit their root cultures, since such values faced discriminatory garbles in regular, mixed-ethnic institutions. This project addresses the issue of cultural minorities and discrimination in the Taiwanese community in school, thus urging international, influential institutes such as Kang Chiao to further enhance education on correlating humanity topics. By initiating education that teaches the proper attitude towards the multicultural society of Taiwan, future generations foresee a tolerant, diverse, and equitable society that favors the peaceful coexistence and well-being of all groups and ethnicities within the community.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
As a part of the project, we are thankful for the invitation from the Vox Nativa Foundation to observe and appreciate how their education is different from other communities and how the teacher acknowledges the students to deliver stunning singing voices and skills. We are thankful to them for allowing us to photograph and film their performance freely. It is a pleasure for our team to learn a new concept of learning and learn the linkage between people and people, people and nature, people and the sky. As a student, we are stunned and impressed by their education style and their motivation for hosting the Vox Nativa Foundation. Once again, we are extremely grateful to the Vox Nativa Foundation for inviting us to try and appreciate new kinds of music and culture, and also take in the principle and element of how native Taiwanese reflect toward the world and nature.
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
While interviewing Principal Ma from Vox Nativa Taiwan, surprisingly over the past ten years or so, the choir teams did not participate in any competition. Principal Ma later then explains to us his viewpoints on choir singing and its purpose. “From the perspective of the Bunun, there are three key layers to our chorus. The first is the relationship between people. In the chorus, we learn to respect, embrace, share, and support each other. Often, people say that our choir sounds beautiful, but the feedback we receive is more than just “good-sounding”... “Resonance” is a mutual connection, unlike a one-sided appreciation of sound.” He believes that singing unites people, fostering a connection to the beauty of nature and also strengthening the relationship with the heavens; rather than competing with each other, Principal Ma believes that competition, on the other hand, drives people apart.
