1. Description of Our Community
Taiwan, an island surrounded by an ocean in the Eastern part of Asia, is known for its advanced technology industry and growing economy. While the country continues to develop, Taiwan’s local businesses play a crucial role in promoting sustainable ideas and improving better living conditions. Many businesses provide employment and essential services, which boost the local economy and help the environment to thrive. These local businesses contribute to society and economic sustainability by creating job opportunities for people to work and grow. In addition, local businesses in Taiwan are adopting green practices, which use renewable energy and reduce waste to minimize the carbon footprint of our country. This shift toward sustainability not only benefits the environment but also creates long-term economic opportunities for local communities. Eventually, this may create Taiwan’s local businesses to contribute significantly to the nation's future well-being and prosperity.
2. Summary of Our Project
Modern cities started to face challenges like rapid urbanization, uneven development, and the loss of cultural heritage. Without enough announcements, the community has been harmfully affected by the environment in recent years, and businesses have also been significantly affected. In Taiwan, these problems are evident in areas where local tradition is being overshadowed by urban development. These issues led to the problem of an unsustainable society. If we start to encourage and support the local businesses offer a solution inclusive of economic growth, preserving cultural identity, and promoting the sustainable urban lifestyle. In this assignment, we’ll mainly focus on developing the business community and creating a sustainable society. At the same time, we’ll deeply understand the purpose of a sustainable country and explore a business that helps Taiwan to become a sustainable country. In deeper research, we found a company named 'Guantian Black Gold' that mainly creates unusable water caltrop shells into more usable materials. It not only helps reduce carbon emissions. It’ll also preserve the traditional culture and make the community more inclusive, safe, and resilient. Eventually, we’ll understand how they produce water caltrop shell charcoal, creating materials that can help to create a sustainable community, which will combine with our main theme.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:none
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dial-up modem
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
Currently, students use the internet for multiple things, including research information, doing assignments and survey making. For our project, the internet has played a key role in completing our work. In our classroom, the connection speed is around 10.58 Mbps for uploading and 2 Mbps for downloading. Nevertheless, since our school is located up in the mountains, the internet connection won’t always be that stable. When the Wi-Fi isn’t working, we use wired internet to ensure that we stay connected. Therefore, our team has access to nine iPhones, nine MacBook, and nine iPads, which allow us to stay connected and make sure we complete our tasks at school and at home. These devices emphasize how important the internet is to our project to be successful.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Throughout our project, we encountered some problems that helped us to develop our relationship to become stronger. First off, we took a lot of time to choose the topics. Even though this is the second time to done this project, still we can’t find the topic that helps us to promote the culture of our community. As we finally found out the topics for our Cyberdair project, the problems seem to never stop. The company didn’t want to keep attention on us and kept not replying to our messages. Therefore, we need to find a new topic. Furthermore, some technological issues happened during the interview. The photo exposure was too long, making the picture overexposed, which meant we had to take extra time to edit the pictures. Moreover, the video recording for this interview was too long and it took a lot of time to download, which caused the editor to wait for a long time. In overcoming these challenges, our group learned to collaborate and solve problems more peacefully. Communication skills play a significant role in the building of good team cooperation.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Participating in the International Schools CyberFair has empowered us to indicate our community’s businesses globally while fostering critical thinking skills.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Our CyberFair project addressed multiple content standards by having language, research, and communication skills. We used different methods to collect the data and information about studying the local businesses and water caltrop’s shell. It aligned with our school’s guidelines by developing student collaboration, critical thinking, and community engagement. Through this project. We gathered the information by interviewing experts in sustainable development and local business brands. We discovered deeper information in this interview. Furthermore, we understand the main concept of never giving up on helping our community. Our school contained the SDGs knowledge in lots of classes, and our topic is related to the number 11 in SDGs goals. As we were doing this project, it allowed us to understand the real concept of how the real cases of sustainable development function, which can connect to the main points the school always wants us to learn about. The project may teach us about the importance of contributing to the local business of our community. There were still people who tried to help our community to be better. Therefore, we can help them to advertise throughout more places. Using the Internet for teaching and learning has been more effective than traditional methods when we are collecting data. It was much faster and more efficient compared to traditional methods and could create a Google sheet to analyze all the responses rather than recording by hand and paper.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
The CyberFair project is an International competition that requires a precise website and detailed information. Cyberfair projects require lots of work that we need technologies to achieve, such as researching, writing information, video editing, website making, photo editing..etc. This indicates the importance of having technologies during our CyberFair project. Most of the time, we use computers as the most valuable tools because computers may run faster compared to other electronics, such as iPads or phones. Furthermore, computers have more space to gather information together. The most important part was that we used computers to find the company Guantian Black Gold. Every group member has a laptop, which makes the research more effective. We used the laptop to search and gather information all around the internet. Not only researching for the information, we also used NicePage to make the website, YouTube to gather the knowledge, Google Drive to preserve our documents and photos, Google Forms to gather data from the survey, and Gmail for sending information to others, Google Documents to collect the information from the interview and Internet. In summary, technology played a crucial role in enhancing the quality and professionalism of our project. It allowed us to access a wide range of resources and advanced tools for digital design. With technology, we were able to collaborate more effectively, organize our work efficiently, and present our final projects.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
After the research of the company named Guantian Black Gold, the leader of this company, which was the main company that we will focus on during the CyberFair project. The leader was named Mr. Cheng Xian Li. Our team leader communicates with Mr. ChengXian Li by Line and phone calls. On the day we needed to go to an interview, we went far down to Tainan. During the interview, Mr. ChengXian Li answered all of our questions and took us to see his factory. He told us that everything was possible if we tried to make progress. Making a new brand can be easy, but if you want to make it popular everyone can notice. We should show our progress and never give up. In addition, we also act as ambassadors when we are sending out surveys to people. In the process of sending out a survey, we also let people understand the concept of the local business in our community. Certainly, we have interacted with different kinds of people since we are researching this topic no matter students or other occupations.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Through this year’s Cyberfair project, we aim to make a strong impact on our society. By sharing our website across Taiwan, we hope to raise social awareness of Guantian black gold company’s innovative technology of turning discarded water caltrops shells into zero-shell carbon products. Furthermore, if the government and other local industries saw our project, they may pay more attention to sustainable products and start similar initiatives. Throughout the project making, we also made a great working relationship with members of our community, including helpers who helped with our survey and the employer of Guantian Black Gold Company, who had provided us with valuable insights and data. These supports had shaped the later success of our website making. Therefore, if our project spreads our sea, it can help start a connection between Taiwan and other countries, which people worldwide can learn about Guantian’s technology and how they contribute to sustainability. This could lead to further partnership between Taiwan and other counties, maybe combining advanced technologies that can improve our environment. Additionally, the feedback that we have received so far from our community has been positive. They were stunned that there is such technology in Taiwan and also impressed by the company’s innovative methods. Overall, our project showcased Taiwan’s local business and sustainable technologies, making a strong impact on our society.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
Our project involved multiple members of our community as volunteers and helpers. They had actively participated in answering our project’s survey, making us represented in all age groups. There are 268 students and 118 adults who have helped us contribute their response to our survey, making it much easier for us to gather and organize the results and information. For Addition, the employer of the company Guantian black gold had provided significant help to our project too. During the interview, he answered our questions clearly, which made it easy for us in collecting the necessary information. Therefore, he had also provided pictures and detailed data about the company leading to our well informed website.
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
While collecting our survey we noticed that many Taiwanes are not familiar with the concept of SDGs. Although the school had taught us some of the SDGs, students generally only have a vague understanding of it. Which this might explain why many Taiwanese don’t have the awareness of the importance of protecting our environment and using suitable products.
