Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Muntinlupa City, also known as the “Emerald City,” is a Highly Urbanized City (HUC) located in the southern area of the Philippines’ National Capital Region (NCR). While being an urbanized community that promotes technological innovation, the city also prioritizes and maintains green spaces and eco-friendly living. Adhering with its mission to advance holistic development and to provide equitable social services, the city has been recognized as one of the premier recreation and sports development hubs in NCR. This title proves to be true as many agencies, infrastructures, and projects are catered towards improving the development and skills of the youth in terms of leadership, sports, academics, and many more. The focus of the city on protecting and developing the youth led to it earning the seal of Child Friendly Local Governance in 2024.

2. Summary of Our Project

The MunTEEN Center in Muntinlupa City is a youth-focused facility established by the Muntinlupa City Population Development Office (MCPDO) to empower and support teenagers through different programs and services. It aims to promote youth leadership, provide educational opportunities, raise awareness about essential issues like mental health and reproductive health, and empower personal and community development. The unique approach lies in its collaboration with schools and organizations, providing customized programs to cater to the specific needs of Muntinlupa's youth. By creating a safe, inclusive space, it has the potential to inspire young individuals to develop their skills, engage with their communities, and become active contributors to society. The MunTEEN Center encourages creativity, collaboration, and a sense of unity among young people, fostering a generation that is both innovative and socially connected.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The day after the interview, we received a notification from the Medical Department that there have been cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease in our school. This disease forced most of the members of the team to shift to Virtual Online Learning and Teaching Modality. In return, there was a sense of “crunch time” that affected our team – dismantling the gantt chart and delaying our deadlines towards the very end.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Participating in International Schools Cyberfair gave us the opportunity to create something meaningful for our community as it showcases the MunTEEN Center, a unique and helpful part of Muntinlupa City. We are not only creating something digital but we are also given the opportunity to create a more united community that promotes development and individuality of the youth in our city.

Working with the school and the city government allowed our team to become more united in our community since we were able to truly be a part of and learn about the city’s efforts to promote the passion to create, the love for learning, and the honing of artistic and academic skills for children in Muntinlupa City.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The content standards our Cyberfair project addressed is the ability of our team members and organizers to spread awareness about the facilities Muntinlupa City has in order to provide support and development for children and youth. We did so from the knowledge we gained from research and interviews and by practicing the philosophy, mission, and vision of our school. Our school’s philosophy is related to our project as it’s about Excellence in Service and Hearts of Service. By promoting institutions dedicated to serving the youth and acting as a space for them to develop and prioritize a healthy well-being, we are not only fitting the philosophy of our school but also adhering to Muntinlupa city’s vision of equipping the youth with holistic development and having citizens ready to give back their community.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The tools utilized in the project are accessible through the internet and organized in a Google Drive for ease of accessibility. Contact Information and other necessary information are loaded in the web page itself. Digital technology and search engines were valuable tools for our teams throughout the project. All of the tools we used are accessible for everyone and were provided by our school, but despite its simplicity, our dedicated team was able to utilize them to properly find data, record information, and put together outputs with quality.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

As ambassadors and spokespersons for our CyberFair Project, The MunTEEN Center, we actively engaged both online and in-person to give awareness of what Muntinlupa City offers to its youth. Creating this website served as a platform to further promote the MunTEEN Center to the online community about the center's programs, resources, and vision, by making engaging and interactive content. Various audiences have also been reached in-person, when having the center promoted to community members and school officials.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project will make a difference in our community because it was made in order to highlight initiatives of Muntinlupa City to develop and provide safe-spaces for the youth. When highlighting the vision, mission, and services of the MunTEEN Center, both the youth and adults are able to learn about it and contribute to the creation and development of a community that is united, capable, and full of individuality and uniqueness. Youth involvement and empowerment has been an advocacy that city governments all around the Philippines are trying to promote and adhere to. Through this website, citizens will be able to learn about the facilities and programs Muntinlupa City has that protects and provides support for the wellbeing and talents of children and youth based on the facility’s projects and services.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The staff of the MunTEEN Center and the Youth Peer Educators and Volunteers are a vital part of the facility and also the creation of our website. We needed a lot of documents, pictures, testimonies, and additional information that could only be provided by those groups. Their contribution allowed our team to put factual information and allowed us to properly represent the MunTEEN Center.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Participating in International Schools Cyberfair helped our team discover the meaningful initiatives of our city to empower the youth. Not only did we learn that the MunTEEN Center exists to enhance the skills of teenagers and provide a safe-space for them, but we also learned that the youth is given the opportunity to help educate and guide their peers through leadership and advocacy. Our community is catered for and is supportive of the youth and we are glad to be part of to be able to contribute to our city’s vision and mission through our creativity and continuous efforts to promote and support it in our project.
