1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
To complete our project for the Cyber Fair, we utilized various tools and technologies. The tools we used most were smartphones, laptops, and tablets. These tools were incredibly helpful for recording, planning, and developing our project. For example, we were able to search online for information and activities related to The Society of Wilderness. It made us understand our subject before contacting with it. Additionally, during our interviews with the secretary-general and the chairman, we used a computer to document their responses to our questions. This modern technology helps us to draft every part of the project, edit the article and complete the task on-time. Our smartphones were also crucial, we used them to take photos, record videos, and write down notes during our visits with the chairman and secretary-general. It helps us to record and memorize what had happen. In summary, our smartphones, tablets, and laptops were the most important and useful tools in the process of completing this project.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
As ambassadors, we conducted interviews and visits to better understand The Society of Wilderness. We interviewed the Secretary-General and Chairman and participated in their activities in person.
Our interview in the winter of 2024 was a key milestone of our project. Before meeting the Chairman, we carefully prepared and rehearsed to ensure a smooth discussion. We asked about their experiences, the organization’s mission, and future plans. The Chairman answered kindly and concisely, making the interview highly informative and valuable.
Experiencing their activities firsthand was a great experience and a new chapter for our research. None of us had previously taken part in wilderness-related activities, so this visit was both educational and eye-opening. Passionate docents guided us, sharing knowledge beyond our expectations. We explored the history of Jinhua Street and Qingtian Street and joined a sketching activity in collaboration with the association. These experiences were unforgettable and enriching, giving us a deeper appreciation of nature’s stories.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
This project aims to raise awareness about the immediate need to protect the natural environment, and encourage more people to take actions to safeguard the nature. By sharing more information about the importance of environmental conservation and showcasing how organizations like The Society of Wilderness actively protect wildlife, we can wake up and inspire others to get involved. Many individuals may be drawn to this cause because of their love for animals or a sense of empathy for their plight. Through compelling storytelling and impactful reports, similar to those shared by Wilderness and other conservation groups, we can effectively convey the urgency of this mission. A well-designed poster and informative website can further amplify the message, broadcast the idea and reach to more audience. We believe that, by coming together as a community, we can work with each other to protect the environment. Our goal is not only to inspire local action but also to spark a global movement, with the hope that The Society of Wilderness can grow and inspire worldwide participation in protecting nature for our future generations.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
During Cyber Fair, we received great support from the community, especially from The Society of Wilderness Secretary-General ,Mr. Hsieh, Chun-Tung and Chairman, Mr. Lee, Chi-Ting. We are truly grateful for their kindness help.
At first, we wanted to learn more about The Society of Wilderness and interview the Chairman but didn’t know how to reach him. Fortunately, Secretary-General, Mr. Hsieh, Chun-Tung helped us connect with him. Mr. Hsieh not only agreed to our interview but also arranged meeting with Chairman, Mr. Lee, Chi-Ting, making our research much smoother and richer. He also invited us to the association’s events, where we experienced the beauty of the wilderness in person. This was a deeply inspiring experience. During the event, he patiently answered all our questions, helping us gain a deeper understanding.
We also want to thank the event guides. They warmly welcomed us and explained the wilderness and ecology in detail, helping us understand the organization’s mission and efforts.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us. Without them, we couldn’t have completed this project successfully!
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
In this project, we witnessed the beauty of Taiwan's nature and the hardworking volunteers from The Society of Wilderness. We also expressed our deepest gratitude and support for their efforts. On Jin Hua Street and Qing Tian Street in Taipei City, there are many Japanese-style buildings that were said to be the residences of government officials. We also saw various trees that we had never seen before, and those two streets were as beautiful as those in Japan.
As for the volunteers, we are very impressed on the varies assignment that they have. Some are responsible for recruiting new members or donations, while others are discussing what actions to take to help animals or people. One of the coolest activities that volunteers worked is to purchase a large piece of land to protect the animals living there. Moreover, there are a group of compassionate wilderness conservationists who always stepped upfront. With their involvement, more and more wild animals in Taiwan would be safe and protected.
By participating this cyber fair, we lean and discover a new knowledge and also learn to appreciate the nature and people.
Do you know each member in The Society of Wilderness has a Nature name when they join, Chairman Lee's nature name is 'Earth'?
