1. Description of Our Community
Linkou District, located in New Taipei City, has transformed from a traditional rural and industrial area into a rapidly developing urban community. In the past, Linkou was well known for its brick kiln industry and agricultural villages. Today, modern residential areas, schools, and commercial districts have gradually replaced many traditional industries. Despite these changes, many valuable cultural traditions still exist in the community. One of these traditions is Zijidi Opera, a form of traditional folk opera performed by local community members. It reflects the cultural history and community spirit of the people of Linkou.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our project, 'Stories of Linkou: Passing Down the Art of Zijidi Opera,' focuses on exploring and preserving the traditional folk performance culture of Zijidi Opera in the Linkou community. Zijidi Opera has long been an important part of temple festivals and community celebrations in Taiwan.
Through interviews, field research, and cultural documentation, we aim to understand the history, performance styles, costumes, music, and cultural meanings of Zijidi Opera. In addition, we hope to introduce this traditional art to younger generations through exhibitions, digital presentations, and interactive activities. By completing this project, we hope more people will learn about the cultural value of Zijidi Opera and help preserve this important local heritage.

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
Currently, our school provides a well-developed digital learning environment. The school has computer classrooms and campus-wide Wi-Fi access. Each teacher also has a personal desktop computer. The students participating in this project are 5th and 6th graders. They use Chromebooks during the research process and collaborate through Google Drive to share documents, photos, and research data.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
One of the biggest challenges in our project was the lack of awareness about Zijidi Opera among younger generations. Many students had never heard of this traditional performance before starting the project.
Another challenge was collecting reliable information. Since Zijidi Opera is a traditional folk activity, many records are not available online. Therefore, we needed to conduct field visits, interview local cultural workers, and document performances through photos and videos. Despite these challenges, we worked together as a team and used digital tools to organize and present our findings.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Our project introduces the traditional folk performance of Zijidi Opera in Linkou. Through research and documentation, we hope to help more people understand this unique cultural heritage and inspire younger generations to appreciate and preserve traditional performing arts.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
This CyberFair project connects with several areas of our school curriculum. In social studies, students learned about local history, community culture, and traditional festivals. In language arts, students practiced reading, writing, and presenting their research findings. In information technology classes, students learned how to search for reliable information online, organize digital files, and create presentations. Through interviews and teamwork, students also developed communication and collaboration skills. This interdisciplinary project helped students better understand their community while improving their research and digital literacy skills.
