Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The local community that we focused on is Xinpu, a small township in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, it's known for the Hakka culture and agriculture. The population of the town is around 30,000 people. Xinpu is especially famous for producing dried persimmons, which are made using traditional methods that are passed down to generations. Xinpu has strong winds and plenty of sunlight, making it ideal for dried persimmon production. Xinpu remains one of the most important places for traditional culture in Taiwan.

2. Summary of Our Project

Persimmons in Xinpu of Taiwan hold significance to Hakka heritage, cultures, and the autumn harvest. In hopes of educating everyone about the general knowledge on persimmons and the importance of preserving traditional persimmon making, we have decided to spread the word through this article and promote the educational persimmon farm, Weiweijia.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:not sure

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We used the internet as a very important source of our researches.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The main problem we had to overcome is having to use our own spare time to complete this project, unlike most competitors, who have classes to complete this project. We can only work on the project every evening, after a long day of school, or on weekends.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We learned a lot about previously neglected and taken for granted knowledge on persimmons and the gradual decay of traditional persimmon culture over the generations. From November of 2025 to March of 2026, we have dedicated ourselves to researching persimmons and promoting Weiweija, a traditional Hakka persimmon educational farm and cultural tourism site in Xinpu, Taiwan.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our CyberFair project fits our schoolwork by teaching us researching, writing, and working as a team. We learned new skills like using the the internet and building a website, while also practicing group responsibility. It helped us understand our community better, and online learning proved more effective than just using textbooks.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Information tools: Government websites, Taipei Times, Taiwan Leisure Farms Development Association. Technologies: Laptops, phones.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We arranged meetings with members of the International Department in Kang Chiao to promote and explain our project about persimmons and the attempt to revive the culture, gaining the support and help from the teachers.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project impacts the community, Xinpu, by informing people internationally if they look at our website. Xinpu is an agricultural community, meaning people are mainly farmers and workers at farms. If Xinpu has never come in contact with persimmons, then the community might be less united. Persimmons brought the community together because everyone was planting it. It brought the community an opportunity towards the persimmon industry. With our website, we can make more people understand how persimmons mean to the community and farmers. Persimmons aren’t just crops, but also a part of Xinpu culture.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our project involved the owner of Weiweijia Persimmon Tourist Farm. We wanted to promote Xinpu with persimmons, so we went to interview Weiweijia Persimmon Tourist Farm’s owner and explained our project to him. He was glad to help us with our project, providing us with free tours and dried persimmon samples. Without his help, we could have never been able to finish this project, so we give him our gratitude.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We were astonished by the amount of money that the farming industry can make because we originally thought that only tech companies can make a great amount of money.
