Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

Salma, 14 years old, was assigned to do the interview and gather information about the paintings and the lives of the painters. Ofelea, 15 years old, was responsible for collecting information that can be useful in our project. She also provides most of the materials we needed to finish a peculiar task. Michaella, 15 years old, was tasked to compile documents and complete all the details that our group gathered from the interview. Amira, 15 years old, was in charge of proofreading, editing the final output and making the manifestation of our website.

We joined together as a group because we had the same interest in arts and because we were often together in the classroom when it comes to group works, which is why it was not a difficult for us to tell our ideas to one another.

2. Summary of Our Project

Can you deny the fact that once in your life, you tried scribbling on walls? Most often, adults get angry to children who write on anything that they see but as adults, are we supposed to be mad at these young kids whose talents are being developed? Good artist develop their abilities when they are supported in what they wanted to do.

We are artist in our own ways...whether known or kept and as supportive citizens, who love arts, we would like to promote the works of young painters whose talents in painting cannot be questioned. As you go through our website, you will not only see the beautiful art forms of these painters but will also learn how painting can affect one’s life because painting, like any other form of art can be life changing because people can express what they feel. It is an art where you can find your inner confidence that you never knew you acquired. Through painting, you will be able to come across in yourself an enormous awareness of the artistry of nature. Our site, though concentrated on painting as an art form, will also feature how any kind of art will promote unity and diplomacy. It is our dream to inspire budding artist to bring out what they know, their talents and skills so that others will be able to appreciate them as well as to have self – fulfilment. Furthermore, if sharing of talents is done, people will have the opportunity to meet, mingle and be friends with one another.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We also have some disagreements in our group that we had to overcome. The first one is about the appearance and content of the website. We have a lot of different ideas that we want to put in our website. So to solve our problem, what we did is we asked other people’s opinion on which idea was the best. Another problem is the time. We lacked time which disabled us to do project properly. To overcome this problem, we made use of the time given in school wisely and also looked for a day where we could all meet up and finish the task we failed to accomplish in school.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen” A painting is a visual representation of an artist emotion or feelings. Poetry on the other hand, is a canvass of words that pours out the writer’s emotions to describe a feeling or thought. In other words, paintings are visual thoughts that are used to communicate words or feelings and poetry are words and emotions that create a visual thought.

6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Each of us learned to be more diplomats, which will help us gain more communication skills that will help us in the career that we’ll take up in the future. The project also helped us widen our knowledge about painting.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Doors to Diplomacy project?

The very first tool we thought that could be helpful was desktop computers and laptop computers. We consider this the most beneficial of all the materials we used because this is where we communicated and made a website.Another tool that we used is the digital camera to capture photographs of paintings and people involved. Then we used Adobe Photoshop CS4 to edit and create images used in our website. Next is the MS Word 2007, MS Word 2010 to manage documents. We also used the MS Word 2007, MS Word 2010 to manage documents. And lastly is the internet and books for additional information.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

We planned to ask the people we know, like family members and friends, to visit our Web project. We will ask them to rate our site according to content, appearance, and information. If they are not satisfied, we will take their feedback as a guide for us to know what we need to improve and what we need to remove from the website that we have created.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our projectshows other people our ability to do this big project because we were helped by the teachers at school, by our parents, and by our friends. This project shows that you need to teamwork in order to accomplish a task that an individual can’t do alone. When looking at some of the artists’ history, we can prove that no task is impracticable to do if there’s a strong will to achieve our goal. We also want this project to be a motivation for either young or aged people to be what they really want to be and do what they desire.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Some of our friends helped us by giving feedbacks to our website, which we used as a guide. We asked few professional programmers to help us when we had difficulties in building our website. We also asked teachers at our school about ideas on how to improve our project.
