Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

First student-Ankit(14 years) He is the youngest member of our team. He is just fourteen years of age and studies in class IX in St.Columba's School at Gol Dak-Khana in New Delhi. By using Photoshop, flash and HTML, he helped us a lot in the presentation of the project. He worked hard without caring about his swollen eyes. His continuous efforts for development of the project are really appreciable.

Second student-Ruchika Aggarwal(17 years) She is another very bright and young member of our team. She is just seventeen years of age and studies in Convent of Jesus and Mary School at Connaught Place in New Delhi. She is in class twelve. Though preparing very hard for her coming Board Exams in March alongwith preparations for competitive entrance exams for engineering ,her devotion to the project is appreciable. She helped us in taking out the pictures and helped in the completion of the project narrative.

First coach-Mrs.Sushma Aggarwal She is a lady of devotion. She spent considerable time for collection, selection and analysis of the data. She searched through many journals, books and web-sites on the internet and collected the appreciable data for the project. Without her guidance, it would have been very difficult to complete such an elaborate project. Second coach- Mr. Anil Aggarwal

He is a young and energetic man, who is the owner of a leading business organization. He is a Director in Rotary Club of Delhi Imperial too. He has been bestowed with many honours from Rotary. He has provided moral support, motivation and overall guidance for our project. In times of difficulty, he was the person who stood behind and helped us to overcome the situation. We all joined togather because it seems to be a very challenging job to produce an educational web project by conducting original research and we accepted the challenge.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project describes the role of a multinational corporation in a society, community, country and the world. Since Business is the creation of profitable enterprise, Multinational corporations can reduce poverty by connecting local business with world markets and bringing access to credit and technology. However,MNCs are absent from some of the poorest regions in the world. The risks of investment are too high. So, the potential benefits of MNCs are not reaching the world’s neediest places. There is a gap between need and investment. The challenge is to close that gap: to facilitate investment by MNCs in poor regions by minimizing risk, and by making the investment profitable and thus sustainable. Our project “Multinational investments and Global welfare” tells us; .about the international trade, .about multinationals and whether they contribute to Global Welfare, .about Foreign Direct Investments, and .about different international Trade Organisations i.e. IMF and WTO. We contributed long hours of hard work and sincere efforts to understand the concept and present it in its totality.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Problems We had to overcome were: .In understanding the concept clearly, .in gathering the required information for it from many journals, newspapers and websites, .in selection of the song and beautiful pictures contributing to our theme, .In using Dreamweaver and macromedia for presentation, .In submitting our website and .finally in arranging long hours of work as we are undergoing our final Examinations. We were able to overcome these difficulties only with great effort and with the help of our teachers.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Doors to Diplomacy has given us an opportunity to present our views on Multinational investment, Globalisation and international-trade. It has helped us increasing our knowledge base and in the widening of our horizon. This has been a very efficient way of spreading word as now many of our friends are much more aware about the current issue of globalisation. since, we have collected all the valuable information relating to Multinationals at one place only,we hope that this project would be of great interest to Business Community also. Thanks to Doors to Diplomacy for giving us this opportunity.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We learnt to work in groups. We divided our work and always tried to be time bound. To our surprise,we found out that Big-Deeds can be done easily with organised group activity. We discovered that even our educational system can contribute to Global Welfare by providing free or concessional education to poor children. We found that as an individual, even we play a very important role in the society. With an increased awareness,we can motivate others too towards Global Welfare. Internet,we feel is a more efficient tool for teaching and learning. With its help one can access vast reservoirs of knowledge within no time and with minimum of costs.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used two computers for surfing on the internet and for presentation of the project, two telephones for getting in touch and exchanging information and several CD roms to write the data. Use of one scanner became inevitable for our project. We used one microphone to record our voices. Computer softwares like HTML,Flash,Photoshop and Macromedia were used for presentation and the online Quiz. We searched through many books, newspapers and websites on the internet to collect the information and we found the internet to be the most desirable and quick means of information. We had to purchase web space on the browser, Microphone and several CDs for the project. We were able to arrange the rest of the requirements ourselves.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We have informed all our teachers, friends, colleagues and relatives about this project. We are planning to advertise about this project in the newspapers and to distribute circulars in the nearby schools and Business Oganisations. People are appreciating our project. They are asking us to prepare a website for their areas of interest.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We hope that our project will clear people's concept about Multinational Investments and how they are useful for an economic development in a country. We have given information about India under'Fast Facts Of India'and some clues about Foreign Direct Investment policies and trends in India. In the 'News-Gallery',we have elaborated on 'Why to invest in India'. By this we hope that people around the world will learn some new facts about India. People around us have seen this website and they really appreciate it for having good information.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

This project was really a big job.At times,we wished, there was someone to help us,but we were unable to find anyone to help us.The only help was-the last year's winners projects, which we observed many times to find out'from where to start'. Ankit had learnt Flash and Photoshop earlier, but while making introductory film,we had to do a lot of brain exercise. We got one of our friends who helped us in Macromedia and Dreamweaver for basic layout of the project. We are very thankful to our these friends. We don't have any long distance helpers.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We discovered,as we mentioned earlier that even difficult jobs can be done easily with the help of organised group activities. Our confidence level has grown and if we are asked to produce another website,we can do it within half the time we consumed earlier and with more pleasing presentations. Our project won appreciation from everywhere and enhanced our values in the eyes of our family members and our colleagues.
