Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Jiangjin area of Chongqin has a long historical culture which is famous for the important location of Yangzi River. The resources of Jiangjin are very rich and Jiangjin is the industry base of commodity grain, mandarins, lean pigs, fast growing trees and food.

2. Summary of Our Project

Students have gained a lot by this special subject plan. Firstly, we know the advantage of pepper of Jiangjin: big size, more flesh less shell, good shape appearance, good taste, high protein contented, and also abundance of trace elements such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc and so on. Secondly, we know the current situation of Jiangjin pepper: there are50 million square meters in the whole region with 150 thousand tons of annual output and 1.2 billion RMB of sales revenue. The plant scale of pepper in this region occupies 62% of it in Chongqin which has 80.7 million square meters. It has become the largest base of fresh pepper of Sichuan and the output value of pepper industry is 1.2 billion RMB. We are really impressive by the little pepper of Sichuan which brings us a limitless surprise.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The subject we use in the web page design in competition is “Special Local products”. We have many special local products here, so when the teacher said that we would do the subject of “Jiangjin Pepper”, we were all surprised. What’s the unique of the pepper? But the teacher told us, “No investigation, and no words”. So we participated in this activity with doubt attitude. It’s very easy to observe pepper trees on the spot and we found nothing special. Then we began to search information online, but we didn’t find enough information. When we were disappointed, we decided to go to the forestry bureau of Jiangjin to interview them. The uncles and aunts were very friendly, they explained to us and provided many important materials which broadened our views and gave us confidence. Although we had some difficulties in the following interviews, we managed to overcome at last. When we saw the web page designed by us, we were so excited, because they were the results by our efforts.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We think a lot by this activity, you will do better if you do everything by your heart.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Students not only need to study, but also need to care for life, learn to observe and to find. Meanwhile, we should watch news in the spare time, not only just learn from books. We need know more about the history and economy of our hometown to broaden our views. In this way, we design web page and learn knowledge. We benefit a lot by participating in the competition of designing web page.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware: computers, digital cameras, scanners, flash drive. Soft ware: CISS system, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, flash, Internet explorer, ACDsee, cut, Ftp. Network: cross-netcom, email, website forum, FTP Server, ADSL broadband.

The purpose of this study is to let students know the pepper plays an active and important role which promotes the development of rural economy, increases the income of the peasants, accelerates the industrialization of agriculture, and invigorates the circulation of agricultural products in order to promote their own parents, relatives and neighbors to plant pepper trees and get rich through honest labor.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We interviewed mayor Li who charges in agriculture, peasant of planting pepper, the village head of Jinzi Village and Dawan Village and we visited the pepper plantation.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In this activity, we have planted a pepper tree by ourselves and we hope it can grow up and bear fruit by absorbing the rain. By the interview our Honglingjin team had together, we not only practiced our social ability, but also felt it was not easy to do a thing. Meanwhile we felt the joy of success.
