1. Description of Our Community
Xichong Town in Sichuan province , an underdeveloped large agricultural town as always , does not boast some natural resources , lager rivers , letting alone pillar industry and large sized enterprises. Therefore, Xichong Town is indeed a nationla poverty-stricken town which is not listed in the national poverty-stricken town however. For the past 10years or more, however , Xichong Town ushered a modern agricultural road with local characteristics and built a good foundation for the root transition of Xichong economy based on the local conditions , innovation and favourable policy of western development .Xichong developed modern agriculture , forging a trail of distinctive , organic and brand agriculture with its favourable geographycal environment and climate conditions as well as cheap labour resources based on its agriture . It is no doubt that Xichong will have a more beautiful future.
2. Summary of Our Project
Whatever teachers and engaged students had a deeper understanding to the past , status-quo and future of Xichong , local economy and customs , policies and outline of the local government as well as people’s direction of efforts ,especially an accurate mastering to the origin , status-quo , existing problems and future goals of the modern agriculture. It was worth mentioning that we were confident in the future Xichong , therefore, we would better serve this area and make our due contribution to the local economy by learning scientific and cultural knowledge and abilities harder and specifing our futher direction.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access

Computer equipment: we have two computer rooms , 60 desktops in one room were equipped 3 years ago ,mailly for distance education , among them , about 40 of them are in bad shape with a slow connection speed , rest of them are broken . Another new computer room is eqipped with 50 tinghua tongfang desktops with LCD screens which was built this year.It was crowded in the computer room as less than 100 computers had to serve more than 5000 students for 73 classes . what is more , students in some classes had to share one computer for every two students and one time practice for several weeks . We also have one computer in teacher’s office which can be served for one person each time. Network : Though school provided network connection , so many internet users in school and ARP viruses in many teachers’ offices as well as backward equipments led to an unstable and blocked network speed , making us never feel the advantages of Information Highway. Sometimes,it may take scores of seconds to upload one picture and several minutes to open a ordinary webpage or websites ,even failed occasionally.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We suffered lots of difficulties for the past month and we made every effort to overcome them. 1, Lack of experience as students participated in the practices of this kind firstly.Therefore , we had to grope forward by learning others’ experience while connecting our conditions. 2, We had to make use of leisuring time at noon ,in the afternoon and at nights of students to engage in students as students had limited time because of the heavy school work . Since this is a common high school ,we’d better leave more time for students to study normally. 3,Our students had a poor ability with computers and even tough in typewritting , letting alone the pictures processing and webpage design. However , under the guidance of teachers , we finished the webpage design finally. 4, Outdoor activity was inconvenient as a result of unpleasant weather of steady drizzle. 5, We uaually caught in the refusing situations when interviewing some less warming people , under these conditions , we had to express our intentions with euphamic words to erase their vigilance. When their answers were deviated , we had to lead them to the right topics to save time. Similarily ,we could not take pictures before we expressed our intentions .
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Although we had a late initiation , modern agriculture would be the future direction of Xichong and forward path of other developed countries .With the support of 650,000 Xichong residents and experience from other countries and regions ,we will have a more smooth and faster regional development. We believe that in the near future , the local economy of Xichong will fly and people will live a better life.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
We combined the common curriculums with the competition items of the Cyber Fair effevtively. For example ,we applied those knowledge in the information classes . Firstly ,specify our required information and make a list . Secondly,collect the necessary information through different ways . Thirdly ,classify the information. Finally , edit and preserve information.
