Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Shangyi County, located in the west north of Hebei Province, adjoining Zhangbei County on the east, Huaian and Wanquan on the south cut by the Great Wall, and adjacent to Xinghe County and Shangdu County of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The whole county covers 2649 square kilometers, with the longest distance between the south and north at 88.8 km, and 55.2km from the west to east. Under the mutual-movement between Yanshan and the Himalayas, the dam edges lines are formed east-west cutting the county into upper and downwards dam landform units sharing completely different geomorphologies. The upper plateau area is on the north, featuring on mountains beside the dam edge, hills of gradual slopes and wavy plateaus. Shangyi is a county with a vast territory, rich in land resources and mineral resources that in urgent need of exploration and development, enjoying wide area of grasses, abundant labor resources as well as rich and wide spread water resources. Meanwhile, several locations have been found to own rich wind energy.

2. Summary of Our Project

Through this special feature research on Mandarin duck River, we have a deeper understanding on the river, witness the serious harm caused by the harsh environment and realize the importance of protecting the environment. We are here to call on more and more people to join together, tack actions to build a beautiful, harmonious and happy home, and inspire everybody that tiny love from your heart and action will do great help for maintaining the beautiful nature.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The special feature research topic is Mandarin duck River, and our team members are around years old with little knowledge on Mandarin duck River. Therefore, it was very difficult to collect the related information and at the beginning we only could search and collect information from internet and the Shangyi County library. In order to collect the information about Mandarin duck River, we had to make a field research, interview and take pictures there. On the first day we failed to arrive at the spot because we were trapped by the overwhelming water gathering from all sources near the Mandarin duck River. Then we put aside the class and made the second field research, we successfully interviewed some people and took many valuable pictures. We did not win understanding from our teachers at first, and then we explained that such experience would strengthen our practical ability without influencing the classes. On one hand, the three of us are from the village, cannot afford a computer, thus we have to spend the spare time and weekends building the website in school, trying not to affect our studies. On the other hand, our supervisor was so busy in school, but he still squeezed time to guide us making the website. We are so grateful for his help.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This is our first time to participate in Net Fair contest. Although we are lack of experience and knowledge, we are confident and positive to go on no matter how hard it will be. We also have a supervisor of enquiring mind and resolute will, who is very helpful for our success. During the short two months, we took interviews and pictures, input texts and edited on the website and many others, we did gain a lot, and it really touched us that it was so easy to destroy the environment while too difficult to rebuild. Above all, we do hope our activity can help to enhance people's consciousness of the environmental protection.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Nets expo let us learn knowledge at ordinary times got consolidated, let us a good social practice activity, make our knowledge and vision improve

Through the investigation of yuanyang river of history, and the surrounding environment and the environment, let people's awareness of environmental protection is to further strengthen, let everybody together action, create the beautiful, harmonious and happy homes.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through our and local government, community and other department interaction, and recognize that as their own mother yuanyang river, please pay attention to care for her, protect the environment is to protect the man himself.

This activity we found the destruction of the environment a moment, change the environment is not an easy thing, good coordination with the natural environment, the relationship between the need to protect us all, and responsible.

Through this activity let people's awareness of environmental protection is to further strengthen, puts forward many Suggestions to protect the environment. The river is beautiful beautiful yuanyang the careful planning, people's hardships to give our happiness. Governance yuanyang river to let people know the seriousness of the environmental protection, people get rid of bad habits.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The local government, department staff in order to change the environment to give strong support, effective measures are adopted.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Local people know to the gravity of the environmental problems and protect the environment, the necessity of understanding to the pollution of the environment and the root of the ecological destruction, and realize the environmental pollution and ecological destruction of the hazards, and control environmental pollution and ecological destruction, and keep the ecological balance, and to ensure that the human sustainable development.
