Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Chaotian District of Guangyuan City is located in northern Sichuan basin, bordering Shaanxi, in upstream of the Jialing River. It covers an area of 1,620 square kilometers with 25 townships and a total population of 210,000 people. The area is a county of ecological construction and economic construction, and has rich tourism resources. There are many different kinds of native products, special snacks. The Chaotian cold noodle is the most special snack among them, and it is the favorite thing of local people.

2. Summary of Our Project

In this activity, students gained a lot. First, we had increased knowledge about Chaotian cold noodles; second, we learned to surf the Internet and access to material. It trained students’ ability to process information on the Internet; third, we learned the skill of communication with people, and improved our ability. Although our work is poor, we are very happy, as participation is over winning.

In our school, there is no computer network classroom, only ADSL broadband LAN composed of four computers.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

This is our first time to join web page designing competition with the theme of local specialties. We have a lot of special products here. When our teacher said that they formerly did the project about Chaotian walnut and won awards, we were very surprised. We want to do a study on cold rice noodles. So we set about consulting literature, and ate the Chaotian cold noodles. How wonderful the pungent and spicy is. In our interview, the aunts quite supported us. As there are secrets in noodle making, we have not made cold noodles by ourselves. What a pity! But we seasoned by ourselves, and had a kind of fulfillment.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

I eat cold noodles every day. However I never expected to put it into web page for competition. It makes us feel so excited, and know there is knowledge in everyday life.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Around us there are many special snacks, but there are few students who know about it. In the new curriculum reform, it advocates the development of school-based teaching materials. We want to study and sort out these distinctive things around, and put them as our and local curriculum, propagating for the tourist industry of our area.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through propagating Chaotian cold rice noodles, it attracts more tourists to Chaotian.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In Chaotian, there are many famous scenic spots. Every year, many visitors come to Chaotian. Through the project, I hope that more visitors know and eat Chaotian special snack, and then the business of rice noodle shop is more and more prosperous.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The people of Chaotian are very hospitable. When we put forward to visit the kitchen, the bosses of rice noodles were very enthusiastic, and supported our work. We were very glade. The customers also supported us, and though that the social practice activity was very meaningful.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

hrough this activity four students of us learned to obtain information from the internet, and it greatly improved the level of computer operation; during the actual interview, we learned how to communicate with people, and exercised the courage. We also found that the cold rice noodle production was simple and amazing. I really want to have a try. When we seasoned the rice noodles, we put more chili. As a result, the spicy was too strong, and almost made us tear. How spicy it was!
