1. Description of Our Community
Our community is centered in Austin Texas. Austin is a very young, liberal city, full of places to go to enjoy yourself. It is located in Central Texas, and is in a region called the hill country. It is ranked very highly by many people for places for a 10-30 year old to live. Many people call Austin the Music Capital. It is full of college students currently attending the University of Texas. Many people who have attended Texas in the past have returned to Austin to make a living and raise a family. There are many attractions, which is what our project is based on, in Austin. There are many festivals to visit in Austin, including Austin City Limits (music festival with many world-wide known names, and some smaller groups) and South By Southwest, which is a festival for not only music but for all other forms of attractions. There are also many sports teams and natural attractions to visit.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our project is meant to show the many attractions of Austin Texas. We show historical attractions, sports, natural attractions, and others. We show people the many places they can visit while coming to Austin. We tell people in detail what to do and where to go to enjoy themselves.
3. Our Computer and Internet Access
A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%
B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6
C. Connection speed used in the classroom:not sure
D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6
E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
We were always able to access the internet in our locations, but the connection was sometimes slow and not cooperative, and there were some days when we could not complete as much work as possible.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Some problems were faced while trying to complete this project. We ran into some issues submitting our project, because we submitted it under a category that was not 'International Cyberfair'. Because of this, we were unable to find our project checklist (which did not exist under the category that we submitted our project under). We finished the entire project summary before discovering this issue. After contacting a moderator, we found a solution to this problem, and the moderator was very helpful. We re-submitted our project under 'cyberfair' and were able to continue our work, and found our project narrative. Another problem we faced were internet issues that restricted our abilities to work as efficiently as possible. Some members of our group had to be reminded to continue to work because they were easily distracted. Otherwise, the project went well and smoothly.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Our participation in this International Cyberfair has meant we learn to use our internet resources available to us to create a website. We were able to learn to work together We also learned about many attractions around Austin and parts of the culture. We learned what types of information should be included in descriptions of parks and attractions. We also learned how to efficiently divide work among group members to work as well as possible together.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
It showed us the standard is high and that our school requirements show this is a project and that it is important. We got over the fact that one of the member was threatened to be sold on ebay or craigs list the person who threatened them gave them an option of the two. This shows effective problem solving techniques in our group
