Qinghai Lake was known as the 'Western sea' in ancient times, also known as 'fresh water' or 'fresh sea'. The Tibetan language is called 'the wrong temperature wave', meaning 'Green Lake'; Mongolian called' kukunuoer ', namely' the blue sea'. It is vast, surge high and sweep forward, and a huge treasure of Qinghai plateau which was given by nature. Qinghai Lake is located in the north-east of the Qinghai plateau, crossed Gangcha, Haiyan County, Gonghe 3 counties, and it is the largest inland and saltwater lake in China. Lake area is 4456 square kilometers, perimeter is 360 kilometers, and it is as more than twice as the famous Taihu. This region is vast, grassland is vast, and there are many rivers with lush aquatic plants, which is the vast natural pasture. The wide and bule Qinghai Lake likes a huge jade embedded in the mountains and grassland, make up the magnificent and beautiful scenery with mountain, lake and grassland. Surrounding the Qinghai Lake, Haixin mount and Bird Island are all resorts. Here are more than 10 birds in spring and summer. The environment here is not only beautiful and cool, but also an ideal summer resort.

Qinghai Lake with her unique scenery attracts many tourists come here for sightseeing. This is the pride of the people in the plateau. Through visiting the Qinghai Lake and the surrounding area, we have a profound understanding to tourism culture, folk culture and regional culture in our hometown. Despite all our strength is very weak, the level is not high, we have displayed a variety of cultures in Qinghai Lake to the world's companions. More than 40 days, we have a common goal, although very hard, we were very happy! I believe that through our efforts, we will have a deeper understanding to Qinghai Lake's historical culture and tourism culture.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Dangaer embroidered leather is an artistic creation which concentrates multiple cultures and organically integrates various cultural genes of Han, Tibet, Mongolia and Hui. In addition, it contains the essence of national culture and enjoys unique making techniques. The activity aims to bring forth new thoughts to the subject through investigation, research and thinking, as well as to encourage students to portray local culture truly and objectively and get improvements during social practical activity. Through independent research and personal practices, students can not only solve problems with existing knowledge and experience, but learn how to think as well as develop humanistic spirit and scientific literacy. Moreover, they can gain more knowledge and basic skills of information technology in the process of practice. The web page making has not only inspired school’s attention on practical courses, but organically combined folk culture with classroom instruction, thus effectively improving students’ practical operation capability.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Hardware: Computer, digital camera, DV, Scanner Software: Dreamweaver, Photoshop CorelDraw,Microsoft Word, Outlook express,

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In our research, we visited the herdsman surrounding Qinghai Lake, staff of Qinghai Lake Tourism Bureau, service personnel of many attractions, social progressives who concern for environmental resources etc. We also share our results with all the students. Most importantly, we want people to know the magic legend of Qinghai Lake, geography and environment construction, about the Qinghai Lake culture, the local folk customs, inspire enthusiasm for loving hometown.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

If without our study, many students including the people in our hometown know nothing about the geography, environment, climate of Qinghai Lake, history and culture of the hometown. Through our research, we share results with students and the people in our hometown, let them know the economic resources, cultural resources, biological resources, tourism resources and environmental construction in our hometown, at the same time, we also have a better understanding of hometown, let the world know largest inland lake in China.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our material was obtained through interviewing and visiting. The tourism workers provided us with a lot of data, especially the pictures of Qinghai Lake, and at the same time, they also told us a lot of Qinghai Lake magic legend stories and environmental protection knowledge when accepting our interview. Some residents were also involved in our interview, and school students communicated the results with us. Of course, the teacher gave us a lot of guidance.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the course of the study, we found, it was not easy to deeply study a project. We knew a little about the beauty and all kinds of culture in our hometown, as long as you ride the bicycle in Qinghai lake, no matter riding around the lake or just riding a part of it, you must love the bike. In the production and daily life, the people of Qinghai create its own history, its own culture, to form and maintain the unique, rich and colorful customs. To understand their local customs and practices is an unforgettable experience for each of the tourists. A large number of Tibetan are living in Haihu, they are very hospitable, enthusiastic master walked out of the tent when the guest arrived, leading the guests to sit actively, a bowl of hot tea was put on your hand, to show the respect and politeness. If the very important guests were coming, according to national etiquette, the master will kill a sheep and irrigating blood sausage.
