Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our school is situated at Songhua Community, Shouan Town, Pujiang County, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. You can get there by bus at Chengdu Xinnanmen Long-Distance Bus Terminal. It will take you 40 minutes or so to get Shouan Exit along the Chengdu-Ya’an Expressway. Songhua is about 5km west of the exit. School lies between big Wumian hill and Small Wumian hill, next to Lingxi river, about 20 kilometers away from Pujiang County. The new Expressway, Chengdu—Xinjing---Pujiang, is located just 1 kilometer from school. The Chengdu- Pujiang Intercity Railroad is under construction, which is expected to be operating in 2015.

2. Summary of Our Project

PuJiang, located in the eastern Eden - southwest of Chengdu, was the southwest gate of Chengdu, the strategic passage, the transportation hub and goods distribution center between Tibet and Sichuan. Pujiang was a national ecological demonstration zone, enjoying the fame as the 'Chengdu garden, green PuJiang'. With the deepening of the new rural construction, beautiful and comfortable rural concentrated residential areas were built in the villages and towns of Pujiang, farmers moved happily into the spacious and comfortable houses with all facilities, living a life in the same way as that of the city dwellers.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our school used the broadband local area network (LAN),and we could only use computer rooms at the rest time of the moon or at weekends, because there were many classes using the computer rooms , we almost had no access to the rooms at ordinary time. Sometimes the classmates also went to other places for their writing, including teacher's home and administration offices at school.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Firstly: the schedule was tight, in autumn classmates got up at seven o'clock in the morning for independent study, which ended at nine o'clock in the evening, and teacher Liu was our class teacher, also responsible for the work in school administration offices, so the classmates could only use the time of noon break and before dinner to do a little, sometimes to do a little at weekends when we managed to the school, and we accumulated the work that needed to be done bit by bit. Secondly, there were many rural concentrated residential areas in Pujiang, distributed in towns, and there were no conditions for us to visit them one by one, we could only search information from Pujiang County's public information network, or get some information from family members, relatives and friends. And the main area that we wanted to know, Manan area was a little far way from our school. Therefore, what we could do was to collect questions, contact interviewees by teacher Liu in advance, and then we made use of the weekend to visit the area. And it was helpful that teacher Liu knew a lot of people with his many years' working in Songhua, when these people knew we were going to visit and interview, they were waiting for us at home, therefore, we could conduct very fruitful interviews. Finally: data collection. This year we have chosen the theme of the rural concentrated residential area, and Manan Area which was our focus for visit and interview was built by Chengxin Huitong Investment Co., Ltd., although there were a lot of households moved into the area, while the whole project had not been completed, the materials, such as design and construction data had not been handed over to Manan village and Huafeng village where the area was located , and when we went to visit at the weekend, there was no people in the Engineering Project Department, therefore we could only ask township secretary of Manan village to help us get some information.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Rural concentrated residential area was one centralized manifest of the farmers' improved living standard, at present, with building a new countryside and the process of urbanization, the rich farmers with more income, all wanted to improve their living conditions. Nowadays, more and more people lived in suites with few rooms as the same as that of the citizens in the city, they could also enjoy the conditions which was only accessible to the urban citizens in the past. There were still many problems needed to be solved for the rural concentrated residential area and there was a long way for the development of the rural villages, while we believe that as long as combining actual situations, with harmonious transformation and scientific development, it could explore new features of a new socialist countryside.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The purposes of organizing students to take part in this activity , were: 1,Train students to build up team work ability 2, Cultivate the students' abilities of observing and getting information 3, Broaden students' horizons, let students walk into the residential area and people's home to understand people's lives, the change of the countryside and the new rural construction. 4, Promote students to acquire knowledge well

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We fulfill Cyberfair project this year using tools such as telephone, digital camera, U disk ,computer and internet. Telephone: contacting and schedule a time to visit Digital camera: photograph U-disk: Data storage, backup iphoto Express:Processing images CISS:Webpage making Microsoft Word :Typing and editing Internet Explorer :searching for information, communicating Network:Broadband network Computer and software belong to the school, U-disk is personal belongings. Students can get on line in school and at home.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through this activity, let the people in the area know more about our school and Thousands of Villages and Townships(Company), through our interview to make them know that focus on the area was to focus on their life, and also on the new rural construction.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through the research, we have learned how to cooperate as well as how to effectively communicate with people and interviewees. In addition, we have also known how to sort materials. Many teachers and students in our school has browsed the web pages of “Pujiang Popcorn”, “Pujiang Tea Industry”, “Pujiang Kiwi” and “Red Sunset” we made in the past. They speak highly of us when they know that our web pages have won prizes in International Internet Culture Expo. We are all proud of ourselves for that we have set up a good image for our school. Our web pages will be accessible to many people through the Internet. Then people will know better about the water resources and ecological environment in Pujiang, and thus paying more attention to the place. It is probably that someone will come here one day for economic cooperation. In that case, our research will be a great help to the economic growth of Pujiang.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Community staffs and people helped us a lot, they offered a lot of information about Manan residential area. Digital camera was extremely useful in interview.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

By visiting residential area, we found that when farmers moved into the area for living, where the environment and health had been improved, which was just in line with the requirement of 'neat village 'in the 16-character guideline of 'new socialist countryside'. There was a long way for the development in the countryside, rural reform was closely related to the reform of the whole society, while as long as combining the actual situation, with scientific development, it could explore new features of a new socialist countryside.
