Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Jinquan Primary School is a complete primary school in Jinjiang District of Chongqing City, it is located at western of Jihe river, east side of Sunxihe river, 33 miles from the city center. Jinquan primary school was established in 1918, its former name is Jinzi primary school.

2. Summary of Our Project

The school is our second home, we live and study here, growing every day. Our school is in remote western rural area, lack of hardware facilities, therefore, our campus life can't be compared with that of the children in the city, but we also have our own harvest and fun. In this research activity, we will introduce our colorful campus life from several aspects, such as the campus environment, diverse activities, growth experience, boarding life etc., to make outsiders understand our elementary students' study and life in the countryside of West China. At the same time, in the activity, exercise students' ability to watch carefully, collecting and organizing information, and cultivate students' spirit of united cooperation, to a certain extent, it also make the students get some knowledge about computer use and operation, providing them with more efficient and convenient ways and means of studying.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

In the process of collecting material and making web pages, we also encountered many difficulties. This research is about the campus cultural life, the original data was found by ourselves with the teacher's assignment, although every day we all lived on campus, but starting to do the research, we didn't know where to start , what data should be collected and did not know how to start. Because we live here every day, we all got used to it, and didn't think about the life here at all, we didn't know from which aspects we introduce the life to you. There was no conclusion after the first group discussion, later, after collecting opinions from many parties, with advices from teachers, we organized several aspects to promote, for outsiders to understand our western rural pupils' learning environment and special fun of extracurricular activities. During the collecting, sorting and making web pages, the school network was often power off and disconnected, we processed texts on microcomputer, and when the network was back to normal, recorded the texts into the web pages. In addition, after all it was the first time for us to participate, there had been many things that we did not understand, which have to be taught by teachers in person, with the guidance of teacher Ling and Jiang, we learned a lot of knowledge, such as image processing, how to conduct interview, our teachers were working very hard for finishing web page making, and here, we were very grateful to them.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This activity got support of school leaders, teachers and students. By personally finding, experiencing, interviewing and collecting and sorting materials, we exercised our own various abilities. More importantly by this project activity, we understood that the saying 'beauty needs to be found with heart', the students also love life, learning, and their school more.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Learning is not only to learn knowledge written in textbooks, we have to learn to live, learn to cooperate and have certain cultural literacy, organization and coordination ability, practical ability and cooperation consciousness, etc. We chose our familiar campus life as the research subject, hope through exploring school conditions, accommodation, activities and other related issues , as well as the subject web page making, led the students out from the traditional classroom teaching, let students participate in the activities, in order to foster the students ability of social communication ,cooperation and exploration spirit; with the teachers' correct guidance, let the students learn a simple research and exploration ,experiencing the fun of exploring. Therefore, in the process of research, in addition to display the research results in the form of website, what we expected more was that through this research, students could learn to cooperate, feel the changes at the school in recent years, taste their wins and losses in recent years, so as to set up the correct outlook on life and values.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Taking part in the practical activity, we devised labor, cooperated well with mutual trust. Through the introduction of our school, learn the original situation of our school, and the investigation and study of activities carried out at the school, made people understand more deeply that study conditions for rural students now was improved, especially the study of left-behind children were better safeguarded, all this was inseparable from the help of the loving person Mr. Lin Tiancun's family, of course, it is not only the help of his family, there are many loving people are paying attention to and care about our school, we believe that children living in our impoverished mountainous area would grow up healthy as that of children with better conditions, and when they grow up, they all have a grateful heart to repay the society. Mom and dad, please do your work outside without worrying about us, we will study and live well, just hope you often go home to meet us, we need love.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through propaganda the change of the school and students' learning and activities, on the one hand, we show parents and villagers our achievement, let them really understand our life at school, making them rest assured to give more affirmation and support for our school work; On the other hand, we let people outside know, pay attention to our school, strengthening the contact with the outside world and increasing opportunities for communication and learning from each other.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The successful making of 'Colorful Campus' project website, condensed the help of many people, there were support and encouragement from our school leaders and teachers, utmost help from all students and some students' parents also provided us with what they can help, with their help, we finished the making of 'Colorful Campus' web site smoothly.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We harvest a lot in this activity. First of all, we get more in-depth understanding of the school's development and changes, understanding the present studying condition never come easy, with gratitude to the people who help us, we are stimulated to study hard. Secondly, the communication between classmates is more closely with more profound friendship, and they also become more united, because in the process of interviews, communication and collecting materials, they share with each other, whether they are happy events or trouble times, everyone speak them out directly without any hiding and is honest to each other. In addition, the learning, writing, external contact, interviews, photography and computer application ability of our team members participating in the production of website have been greatly improved. Of course, we also learn the profound lesson that is to be a man of heart, learn to accumulate, only in this way, there should not be 'cramming', and there must be plans for doing things, in this way, get things done well in order.
