4. Problems We Had To Overcome

During the ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) project, we faced several barriers. One of the main challenges was limited access to artisans and collecting detailed information about traditional crafts. Some artisans were not comfortable using technology, which made digital documentation difficult. We also faced technical issues such as slow internet connectivity, difficulty in uploading content, and limited experience with website tools.

To overcome these obstacles, we interacted with artisans directly, conducted simple interviews, and helped them understand the purpose of the project. Students worked together to collect photographs, write content, and organize the information. With guidance from teachers, we learned how to use online tools and gradually completed the project successfully. Teamwork, patience, and proper planning helped us overcome these challenges.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our participation in the International Schools CyberFair helped students learn about the importance of preserving local handicrafts and respecting the skills of artisans in our community. It also gave students an opportunity to develop teamwork, research, and digital skills while promoting our local culture.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

For our ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) CyberFair project, we used several information tools and technologies. We used computers with internet access to research and prepare the project content. Mobile phones and digital cameras were used to take photographs and record videos of local handicrafts and artisans. We also conducted oral interviews with artisans to collect authentic information.

Students used software like MS Word and web tools to write and organize the project. Libraries, books, and newspapers helped us gather background information about handicrafts. These tools helped us collect, document, and present our findings effectively for the International Schools CyberFair project.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

During the ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) project, students acted as ambassadors by interacting with local artisans, community members, and teachers to collect information about traditional crafts. They conducted interviews, explained the purpose of the project, and shared how the project promotes local handicrafts. Students also communicated through phone calls, emails, and in-person visits.

Through participation in the International Schools CyberFair, students proudly represented their school and community. Many artisans appreciated the students’ efforts and were happy that their work was being recognized and shared with a wider audience. This interaction strengthened the connection between the school and the local community.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) project has helped strengthen the relationship between our school and the local community. Through this project, students interacted with local artisans and learned about their traditional skills and cultural heritage. The project helped bring attention to the importance of supporting and preserving local handicrafts.

By participating in the International Schools CyberFair, our website shared information about our community’s handicrafts with a wider audience. Community members, parents, and teachers appreciated the students’ efforts, and the project helped create awareness and respect for the work of local artisans.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) project involved many members of the local community as helpers and volunteers. Local artisans shared information about their crafts and demonstrated their traditional skills. Teachers guided students in research, interviews, and preparing the project content, while parents and community members encouraged students and helped arrange visits to artisans.

We also received support from school staff who helped with technology and documentation. Their guidance and cooperation made the project successful. We sincerely thank all the artisans, teachers, parents, and community members who supported us during our participation in the International Schools CyberFair.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the ShilpSetu (Handicrafts) project, students discovered the rich tradition and creativity of local artisans and learned how these skills are passed from one generation to another. One surprising discovery was that many talented artisans are not widely recognized despite their excellent work.

Through participation in the International Schools CyberFair, students learned the importance of teamwork, research, and respecting community heritage. The project also increased awareness about local handicrafts and encouraged students to value and promote traditional art forms.
