1. Description of Our Community
Our hometown, Yuanlin City in Changhua County, is situated at the intersection of the plains and the Bagua Mountain Range. Serving as the economic and cultural hub of southern Changhua, it is a vibrant, modern metropolis filled with warmth and hospitality. Once the most populated and economically prosperous township in Taiwan, Yuanlin has successfully upgraded to a city. With the completion of the railway elevation project, the city's developmental landscape has been seamlessly integrated, transforming Yuanlin Station into a modern and highly convenient transit center. The city boasts internationally renowned tire and bicycle component industries while preserving the century-old candied fruit crafting techniques around the Baiguo Mountain area, perfectly blending traditional industries with modern innovation. The people of Yuanlin are known for their passion and diligence, and the downtown area is filled with mouth-watering traditional local foods. As the starting point for our railway tourism project, Yuanlin's convenient railway network provides the greatest support for exploring various attractions. Based in this beautiful railway city, we hope to use the power of the internet to showcase the enchanting scenery along Taiwan's railways to the world, while introducing everyone to our beloved hometown.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our project, 'Introduction to Famous Attractions Around Railways in Central Taiwan,' aims to lead the public in exploring Taiwan's rich cultural heritage and modern knowledge repositories through the perspective of railway travel. Railways are not merely a means of transportation; they are bridges connecting urban and rural memories with humanistic beliefs. This project features several highly representative attractions along the railway network. It includes Baishatun Mazu and Dajia Mazu, which showcase the profound power of folk beliefs and allow travelers to deeply experience the passion of Taiwan's traditional religion. The journey also covers the National Museum of Natural Science, which inspires scientific discovery, and the National Library of Public Information, which offers a rich literary atmosphere. Furthermore, we extend our exploration to Checheng Station, filled with the historical remnants of the timber industry; the Taliwu Cultural Park, which successfully revitalized old warehouse spaces; and the Chimei Museum, renowned for its exquisite Western art. Through this project, we hope to map out a diverse and fascinating railway tourism guide for domestic and international visitors, allowing everyone to savor Taiwan's historical tracks, religious culture, and artistic beauty to the rhythm of the train while promoting low-carbon green tourism.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome
Children lack the logical ability to integrate information, making it difficult for them to find relevant data that aligns with their research topics. Therefore, they are divided into groups to encourage collaborative learning, allowing information to be gathered more efficiently. The teacher also guides the children through group discussions to help them organize and select appropriate information. Furthermore, children often struggle to fully and accurately record the information they obtain during activities, frequently missing details or leaving their records incomplete. To address this, they are required to work in pairs during field investigations—one person is responsible for taking notes, while the other handles audio recording and photography. After the interview, the recorded audio can be used to verify the accuracy of the collected information, ensuring that the final content is complete and precise.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Participation in this event not only allows the public to learn about famous attractions around the railways in central Taiwan, but also enhances their awareness of the importance of local architectural and cultural features. Furthermore, it aims to strengthen public identification with their homeland of Taiwan and promote local tourism.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
This research project provides students with opportunities to practice planning travel itineraries, exploring local culture and specialties, and enhancing their information integration and writing skills. During field trips to famous sites around the railway, students observe, record, and learn about local characteristics, thus strengthening their practical research skills. They also take photographs and combine them with text to design webpage layouts, cultivating an aesthetic sense. Throughout the research process, students practice clearly expressing their views, actively participating in activities and discussions, developing teamwork skills, sharing research findings, and collaborating to complete tasks. Every stage of the research process requires student effort, and successfully completing this research project will be an unforgettable and valuable experience.
