Description of Our Community: Tamsui District, located in the northwest of New Taipei City, Taiwan, faces the Taiwan Strait and is a place rich in history and charm. Known for its stunning natural scenery, abundant cultural heritage, and relaxed pace of life, Tamsui attracts numerous visitors eager to explore its offerings.
The history of Tamsui dates back to the 17th century when it served as an important colonial settlement for the Spanish and Dutch. Fort San Domingo, a testament to this era, remains a popular tourist attraction showcasing colonial architecture. During the Qing Dynasty, Tamsui became a significant trading port, leaving behind bustling old streets and historical sites.
Today, Tamsui Old Street is one of the most popular attractions, filled with various food stalls, unique shops, and traditional restaurants offering local delicacies such as fish ball soup and "A-Gei" (stuffed tofu). The scenic beauty along the Tamsui River is equally captivating, particularly the sunset, often hailed as one of Taiwan's most beautiful.
Other notable landmarks include Tamkang High School, Aletheia University, and the Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf. The Fisherman's Wharf is renowned for its romantic ambiance, making it a perfect spot for couples to stroll and enjoy the night views.
With its unique blend of historical culture and natural landscapes, Tamsui has become one of Taiwan's most iconic travel destinations. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a food lover, or a nature admirer, Tamsui offers something special for everyone.
