Description of Our Community: A community is an important living space that includes schools, activity centers, and churches. It brings residents together emotionally and provides spiritual support. This time, we visited Fangshan Township, located at the southern end of Pingtung County. With its unique geographical environment where mountains meet the sea, Fangshan has nurtured the well-known Fangshan mangoes.
The community frequently holds various activities that showcase local culture and industrial characteristics. Walking through the community’s streets and alleys, we could feel the residents’ warmth and sincerity. Through this visit, we gained a deeper understanding of the stories and history behind Fangshan mangoes, and we also realized that the Fangshan community is a valuable cultural asset worthy of preservation and inheritance.
Project Description: This thematic research project for the Cyber Fair allowed us to learn a great deal. During the field visits, we gained valuable experiences that are rarely taught in regular school classes. For example, we learned about the history of mangoes, visited mango orchards, and participated in activities related to mango culture. We also discovered mango-related products such as ice desserts and canned goods. These are all parts of everyday life and history that are gradually disappearing.
Throughout the visits, local staff and business owners patiently explained the history of mango trees as well as the architectural features of the buildings, which helped us gain a deeper understanding of the local culture. Through this project, we hope to introduce visitors to the culture and stories of Pingtung mangoes, allowing more people to understand the history behind this fruit. People from all over the world can also experience the unique aroma and flavor of Pingtung mangoes.
In addition, during the field research process, we learned how to communicate with others, respect our teammates, work cooperatively, and build friendships with classmates. During the webpage production process, we further developed our language expression skills, information technology abilities, and web design techniques.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our teachers, who supported and guided us throughout this journey. We hope that by participating in this competition, more people will gain a deeper understanding of Pingtung mangoes, and that the stories behind this fruit can be preserved and shared with every visitor who comes here.
